There's another agenda at work in the charge against the Salvation Army. Certain liberal secularists hate the Salvation Army because it is a Christian organization that takes seriously the call to minister to those in need and to save souls. The fact that the Salvation Army's track record for getting people through treatment, into jobs and back on their feet is among the best in the field, they're a natural for people like Nancy to go after.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't English the official language of this country?
Thought so... ![]() So...how can the governments sue an entity for speaking the official language of themselves?

Is it? Officially?? When I turned 18, I voted, 1988, one of the things that was included when voting for the Pres, was a thing to make English the Florida state official language. I was appalled. Natually I voted to make English the state language.

I do remember seeing a show on the History channel a while back though stating something about a vote between German and English quite a long time ago... Why is there such a strong opposition? I would imagine it's because of all the freaking goobers who don't speak English voting NO? See you at the next AutoX in a few months! ![]()

For now, my company's English speaking requirement is mandated by federal regulations.
§ 61.123 Eligibility requirements: General. To be eligible for a commercial pilot certificate, a person must: [...] (b) Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.... § 65.71 Eligibility requirements: General. (a) To be eligible for a mechanic certificate and associated ratings, a person must— [...] (2) Be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language... §391.11 General qualifications of drivers. [...] (b)(2) Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records; ... Regardless of nationality, race, etc, if I have trouble understanding an applicant and/or the applicant has trouble understanding me - they do not meet the regulations, IMO.

Suit has no basis. A private business can make decisions such as what is required for a job description. So does this mean that trucking company cannot require that its drivers have a commercial license or that loading dock workers have the physical strength to move freight?
Mistake they make in the policy is the allowance of a year to learn English. After the person has been there for 90 days, or whatever the period is, it is nigh on impossible to fire them in California.

If we lose our language, we lose our identity. After that we lose our country. In my view, Pelosi is a traitor to our culture if she supports this.

So do I need to tell prospective job applicants "speak English or get the f*ck out of my office" in Spanish now instead of English? Anyone got a translator handy? I want to be "sensitive" here.

Times have changed
![]() My parents learned to speak English because that was the thing to do. They learned to be part of society. Today it seems that you get a lawyer to teach society to learn your language. Last I heard was that English is not the official language -- it was the defacto language though. California was trying to push the initiative to make English the legal language. Did it go through? I have nothing against "legal" immigrants and think it's great they want to go to America. I just have problems when I go shopping and the clerk "doesn't speak English" or "isn't very willing to speak English". Save the Queen's English!!!

WTF, and they wonder why people get so pissed of they start shooting.
Doesn't the government have better things to do like trying to save the economy?

Ahhh, divert attention is the government's plan.
Why would they want you to be focused on something that they can't get right? It's easier to find an issue like the Salvation Army and then stand on their soap boxes when election time comes around!
