Sorry to go off on a tangent here, but I noticed we have a celebrity of sorts on this thread, an early 911 group organizer. Name: Vern Lyle.

If he's one and the same, Vern is the original founder (with wife Betsy) of the Early 911S Registry (www.early911sRegistry.org). There was a thread on the Registry forum awhile back wondering about your whereabouts.

It's been awhile, but I was one of the earlier members (no. 129), just hanging with the S guys but w/o an S. According to the Registry website: Current members: 2,566, Active members: 866

Welcome to the Pelican Forum.

Certainly not celebrity status; the Registry is just something we did some 17 years ago. Haven't really been in touch with them for awhile since we built/bought/sold 6 serious SCCA modified autocross cars and then moved 4 times in the last 3 years.

Still love the early S's, but just sold Betsi's 73 and I am currently without a Porsche; she has a 996. Been lurking and learning here, and glad I found this site. I WILL have another early car.

To stay on topic:

According to my info, he didn't build his own until later. That sure looks like a Cooper logo on the nose. At first I thought it was Lotus, but I don't read where he ever drove for Chapman.

Doesn't matter, it's all good.

Believe it or not, many groups and similar organizations existed before the interwebs.

There was this service that delivered paper documents to homes and workplaces via various motorized, mechanical machines which allowed such interest groups to flourish.

Best,

Kurt

Now, is that a Cooper or one of Jack's BT Repcos?

I had dinner with Sir Jack Brabham last week. Well, me and 200 of my closest friends. Jack had been particpating in a rally event, and spoke at the presentation dinner. He's 90 now, and I fear his racing and rallying days are coming to a close. A grand gentleman of the sport. And the only F1 driver to have built his own car and won a world championship.
