Puzzled
I'm looking for ideas for my dad for Christmas. He likes tools, but doesn't like the work that goes along with them. I guess that's why he had 5 boys.
![]() I would really like to get him some sort of puzzle that will take him quite a bit of time to solve, and allows him to carry it around the house (office to the back porch). Since there is a remote possibility that Alzheimer's (age 66) is setting in, I want to keep his brain active. He enjoys figuring things out, and is a really smart and fair dude, even though he's a lawyer. Sudoku is his daily thing if that helps. What's the latest and greatest? Thanks, Matt

Tavern puzzles.
I have a blast with them. Here's a link so you know what to look for. http://www.brainpuzzles.com/verydifficult.html

When my Grandfather hit 70, I got him a computer (iMac). He recently turned 78 and I updated his computer to a new iMac.
I have no doubt that the computer has kept his mind busy and extended his life! He does eBay, teleconferences with the family, keeps up with current events specific to his former career and who knows what else. ![]() FWIW. Best, Kurt Last edited by kstar; 12-05-2007 at 11:20 AM.. |

You are dead on with your idea- brain exercise is the key.
My grandmother who lived to 93 and never ever lost a bit of her brain always did the entire crossword every day, all of the jumbles, and other stuff like that. Sudoku is an awesome start- I wish I sould get paid to play that game. A computer, if he doesn't already have one, would be the ticket. He can get hundreds of games, and you guys can play each other online even if you live far apart. |

There is a brain game, I can't remember the name but it is popular and (supposedly) will improve your brain function. I saw it previewed last Christmas on the Today show. it iwll test you to tell you if you have the brain function of a person your age or younger/older. With use, it lowers your "brain age" - hey, maybe that's the name?!

Maybe even a Wii for your Dad?
Apparently the machine is a big hit with older folks and it does get the blood flowing as well. Best, Kurt |

I've got some of those tavern puzzles, they are very cool, but can be frustrating.

LOL. A woman will certainly keep him puzzled.
Second that handlheld "brain trainer" game that's all over the tv these days... (though this could be received as an insult or insinuation)

Good ideas! Keep em coming. He has a computer, but lately he doesn't spend much time on it. Usually he has his head buried in a book, or doing the soduko puzzle. Any books you can recommend?

Get him trying to figure out CIS problems. He will certainly be "puzzled".
