So lemme get this straight. Teen pregnancy rates rise for one year out of 15 and this article somehow finds a way to bring it around that "abstinence only" doesn't work? So teen birth rates fell for 14/15 years? What about that didn't work?

I'm not saying I'm for abstinence only education, but the premise of the article is a little skewed dontcha think?

Future paycuts for cops, civil servants and computer helpline staff due to oversupply.

Other ways the article might have been titled include:

"Teen births down 33% since 1991. Abstinence education a success!"

or maybe

"Rise in teen pregnancy rates correlate with increase in condom use. Condoms no longer reliable!"

As a wise man once said, there are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics...

'cause they can't pay for them. And if you can't pay for what you bring into the world, you should not be doing it. I need my dollars to raise my own, not to be taken in taxes to support someone elses.

You have to have a license do drive a car, but not to have a child.

The private schools around here do not have sex education classes, and I would bet that the teen pregnancy rates are much lower than schools that have sex ed. Could it be the parents?

you're obviously not familiar with the use of "sarcasme green" on this board

So Gaijin, the real problem is the limited income of teens? Then improving employment and income opportunities for teens would solve the teen birth problem.

Read an interesting article a few months ago, don't recall where, in which a couple of researchers tried to figure out the teen birth phenomenon. Interestingly enough, in almost all cases of teens having babies, it wasn't an accident - they planned to have the child. It seems that most have rotten lives, and decide to have a baby to give their life purpose. I talked with my cousin, who teaches at an inner city high school (obviously seen plenty of pregnant students) and she backs that up - most of the pregnant teens she has seen got pregnant purposely.

Supposedly teen sex rates have gone up dramatically the last few years, but teens have also gotten very good at using birth control. For those few who decide to have a child, there's not much we can do, other than try to educate them that having a child in your teens is really not a good life choice.

Not much different than some adults I've seen deciding to have kids because they think it'll somehow keep a failing marriage together or get so-and-so to love them more.

People are capable of all kinds of stupid rationalizations for anything.

We need fewer people having kids in this world, not more.

That is the beginning of the problems...

Improving employment and income opportunites comes with education and training. And that takes time and lots of work, and is best done when you are young, and not busy raising babies. We have a mature economy and the takes lots and lots of money to raise kids. People forget that.

Besides that - very, very few kids, I mean teens are mature enough to have children.

But if your Daddy is Donald Trump - and he is going to foot the bill - go for it. It is a free country.

Kids are huge investments of time and money - one of the reason many people (including me) are foregoing having them until much later in life, if at all.

It's no fun having to scrap through life one dollar at a time just to make ends meet all while sleep-deprived and having to tote around a screaming infant the whole time.

I can totally see why there is a "lack of appeal" for this choice on the part of a lot of 20-somethings and 30-somethings who want to get their own careers/lives firmly on track first. It'd be a lot easier to raise kids if one didn't have to worry about raising money.
