This Day, (Dec 11) 1993
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I lost my father (I know, it is 30 minutes before the 11th) but it weighs heavily on my mind. He is the one who taught me to stand up for not only myself, but for others, to speak my mind and when wrong, stand up and admit it. I really miss the old salt ![]()

I am sorry for your loss. My dad is 62, and I worry about the day when he will not be there to guide me. He's a hard ass, but he has always loved me and gave me good advice.
![]() Christ...don't get me bubbling in my my merlot now.... I will always have deep respect for guys that are great fathers. Some great pictures of Jeff Higgins and his son working on Jr.'s 911 in the Pacific NW forum. Nice to see someone sharing their time and wisdom with their son.

I'm drinking a nice Merlot too. Yea, my dad was a total hard ass, and when I grew old enough, I was/am thankful that he was so hard on me.

With ya Byron.
Lost my Dad 4 years ago, 3 months after my son was born. Tough time. Many times do I wish he was here for me to talk to about Dad things.

It will be two years ago in February. I'm a lot younger than most of you guys. I was just beginning to get along with my dad.

I worry about my father every day. I called him yesterday to see how he is feeling; he has Arterial Sclerosis and has had multiple surgeries. If left up to my mom I find out via email a couple of weeks after he had a surgery. I call him at least once a week to see how he's doing. He and I have only started understanding each other in the last 10 years. Before that he was just "dad", the guy that disciplined me when I screwed up. Now he's my father. He's the main reason I'm trying hard to move back to FLA. Life is too short to be so far away.

My father was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's (sp?) lymphoma in 2003. After a pretty hardcore round of chemo and radiation, he's actually in the best shape I've ever seen him (and cancer free). Goes to the gym pretty much daily. Its embarrassing that he can still kick my ass all over the place, but I am glad for it.
I'm glad I have a father that gave a damn. He wasn't necessarily ALWAYS right IMO, but I never will doubt his intentions. |

Byron,
My sympathies are with you! I lost my grandfather a few years ago and I still miss him every day!

Good dads are hard to come by Byron. Make sure you pass it along in whatever way you can.

My Dad passed away 22 yrs ago, he was 64.
He came thru Ellis Island as a young boy, he served in WWII, came back from the war and spent the next yr finding every bar in Milwaukee. Met my Mom, got married, my brother came next and 2 yrs later it was me. He was a workaholic, would never say no to me or my brother but demanded total respect and honesty. He was the one that gave me the love for the outdoors and to place love for your family above all. If you don't love the work you do for a living, you are really nothing, money really gives you a headache and you can't take it with you. I remember getting the call a friday afternoon that this was it, as my Mom said. I got on the red eye special that night and was by his side late morning. We had a good day, watched the Packers win a game, the Priest gave him his last rites and at about midnight I gave him a big hug and kiss and said I would see him tomorrow. At this point I was kinda tired from the last couple days, in the back of my mind I wanted to stay but my Mom said lets go home and get some sleep. At 5am we got the call from the hospital that he was gone. We went down to the hospital and got there to confirm his death but as we both hugged him one last time, his body expired his last breath. The hardest thing for me was watching my Dad get placed in a body bag. I miss him very much, he died from metastatic carcinoma.

Lost my younger brother three years ago last week in a motorcycle accident. Think about him every day.
Thankfully Dad (and Mom) are still with me. Play golf with Dad every opportunity I get and my parents are my kids biggest fans at every one of their events. My thoughts are with you Byron.

You've made me glad that my dad is still around. I don't think i'd be able to pull myself together when he goes some day.
