I heard it was a really good show. I really hope they decide to tour.

I would have given my LEFT nut to be there as well.

It just didn't sound as sharp as I would have hoped for.

Well...they never sounded as sharp live as they did in the studio. Granted, I'v enever seen then live, but I have every thing ever put out on video, and bootlegs as well. They were always a bit loose live.

Just your left nut, eh? I dunno..there's not much I wouldn't have done to have been there. I can't think of anything, actually. And I can think of a lot...

its funny in an odd way...the shows in copenhagen in 69 were very very tight...and then later the Knebworth shows they were very tight, but the sound remains the same shows were much looser...plant & page in 95 was pretty tight and sounded great....this one in London looked pretty loose... so it is hit or miss with them...

I think it depended largely on how drunk/high they were...

How much Heroin Jimmy consumed....and how much booze Bonham had consumed is more like it.

Plants voice sounds shot, and the sound is flat. NO juice just the noise that old men make when trying to recapture the magic of youth.

So U Boyz can su{k on it all U like, but that don't change the facts.

eh.. not all old men subscribe to this...Tony Bennett for example, improved his voice with age. Listening to him, for example on the 1974 Bill Evans / Tony Bennett album vs. how he has sounded in the past 10-15 years, he is much smoother, better sounding than he did in the 70s...

but maybe that was the drugs back then too?

early Zep

Tony Bennet isn't trying to recapture anything..

Jimi Page is a good Bass player and no one will ever mistake him for Jimi Hendrix.

I read there was a 25 year old guy who paid $168,000 for two tickets. Not sure I'd do that, but I have three kids and couple of cars I could offer up.

Living legends.

Zep would have benefited from an extra guitar player for live shows.

Too many layers for one guy to try and cover.

From this clip and other clips I saw on BBC lastnight, I think they sounded quite good. Although I was hoping to see Jones' white telephone resting on the piano....

Anyone notice how far they tuned down in that Black Dog clip? On Led Zep IV, it's tuned to standard E or 440A. My guess is a whole step down on this clip, though I'm too lazy to reach across the room to grab a guitar and check it. When Rush played this summer, they did Circumstances, which was way, way above what Geddy can sing nowadays. They tuned down so far it really hurt the song. I think VH did the same for a few tunes with Dave on the current tour. Hell, they did in the studio for Dave too.

You're right, Rick. It's a whole step down. I would agree that's the reason why some folks might feel it sounds "flat" or "Lacking energy."

I thought it sounded ok, and I"m with Tabs. Jimmy Page's bass playing is first rate.

I saw them live twice in Seattle back in the '70's. First time was a smaller venue, and I was only about 10-15 rows back. Second time was the Kingdome, and I was up in the cheap seats. First one stands as one of the top two or three shows I have ever seen; the second as one of the worst two or three. Not because they were "on" at the first but not the second, but rather because of the sound quality in that big old concrete dome. It sucked. If I was close enough to be inside the echo zone, I'm sure it would have been great. In other words, the quality of my experience was no reflection on their performance. Just the venue.

I feel for you guys that never had the chance to see them back in their heyday. "Sloppy" is, I guess, a relative term. They were just so damn talented they could afford to get "sloppy" and still be tighter than just about any other band before or since. And I never saw it as "sloppy"; more like playing and singing from their hearts and souls, rather than stoically grinding out the studio version note for note. So much of what they did on stage was improvised, playing within the framework of the song, but taking off in whatever direction Jimmy's trip was taking him. John Paul Jones was the master of getting them back on track after those wild excursions; he was the anchor they very much needed.

Folks can argue talent, technical merit, mass appeal, and whatnot all day long. These guys were just pretty damn entertaining. Their music was far different than anything that came before or has come since. No other single band has stood so far appart from their contemporaries, and has succeeded in changing the landscape of rock and roll to the degree these guys did. None of us has trouble remembering dozens of old Zeppelin songs; they were very much a part of the fabric of a generation's life. There will never be another. So what if they are all old farts; I am too. It would be great to go down memory lane with them. I hope they tour...
