I disagree completely. Our reputation is our most important asset or our worst enemy. It describes who we are and how we act based on previous history.
If this person returned that item in that condition, he deserves all the negative feedback he gets. Every bit. There is no logical reason not to name him. None.
Failing to provide that public feedback encourages him and others to act that way. There has to be some repercussions from actions like that.
Others need to know how he might act. If he did this once there is no reason to expect he won't do it again. In fact, I'd bet he's reading this thread and laughing.

Just out of curiocity, what models of 911 does that carbon fibre heater tube fit?

Hugh R 12-16-2007 01:00 PM

Sammy is right, all you have in this world is your good name. That's it in my mind. I suppose if your really rich, you might not care though.

sketchers356 12-16-2007 01:03 PM

I don't understand the logic in defending this person.

bell 12-16-2007 01:29 PM

i'm not defending the person in any way, as that person is wrong.
i feel we cannot give thom **** for outing him yet because it will definately hurt any chances he has of getting some sort of "restitution" from this guy by this threads existance.....maybe in a week or so thom will feel differently as it will give the opportunity for the wrongdoer to make right, time will tell.....when/if the situation is corrected is when we'll know who it was, but that is solely at thoms discrepancy at this point of time.

and just to note, i bought thoms used targa top off him years ago when he converted his 911 to a cab (and cause i forgot to latch mine LOL) it was a killer price and he's a good guy to deal with, i think that is obvious by the comments in this thread and his products.

Looks like the one on my 993 and also fits 964's. If Thom wholesales to Steve Timmins, then I also have one of his cf tubes. Fit fine and looks great.

Thom is the funniest guy on this board, hands-down. IMO.

Did you ever make it home?

911boost 12-16-2007 07:28 PM

Man, it just didn't fit, and then it talked back when I tried to sweet talk the tube into place, so it got the five finger treatment...

Just kidding, what an asshat.

On a side note, Thom, I went to a VW show a couple of weeks ago and drove the turbo, it was cool, there was a 1957 (or so, I think), bug there with a belt driven old school super charger. It was sweet. I should start a new thread with all the pictures.

Yup, around the end of October. Six months total I was gone, now I just sit in my apartment and savor being home. It was very nice to meet you and all of the other people on that trip. SmileWavy

You too, my friend. Wish it could've been longer, but was awesome nonetheless.

Chocaholic 12-17-2007 03:49 AM

That will happen when you install it on a 92 Mustang. Just out of curiosity Thom....did you verify that he was installing it on a 993 or 964 engine?

Now that the poor slob has been lambasted...perhaps we could learn his side of the story?

cool_chick 12-17-2007 03:57 AM

Maybe he has a different side of the story, but once you damage goods you purchase, even unintentionally, you eat it. You get pissed at yourself, maybe wait a couple days to cool off, then you throw it away and buy another one. Even if it was the wrong part, you DON'T jam it in there to cause this kind of damage.

I can't find a single valid reason for returning an item in that condition and demanding a refund.

Chocaholic 12-17-2007 04:07 AM

That settles it...no reason to hear his side of the story. Thanks for straightening that out for us.

NOT.

LOL whatever. Who pissed in your wheaties this morning? Happy Holidays to you too. :)

Having raised children and been a manager in a large office (a lot like raising children), I've learned that there are usually two sides to a story. Before passing judgement and taking action, I've learned that it is best to at least hear the other side.

Didn't mean to come across as grouchy. Corn flakes are just fine. Thanks!

Yes, management is like raising children. LOL. I'm just struggling here to find any possible scenario here to validate this. I suspect he just jammed it in, was pissed off cuz it didin't fit, then got mad at Thom and it became Thom's "fault" for "sending him the wrong thing" even if it was exactly what he requested. But even if it wasn't.....to ruin it...???

This annoyance of mine probably stems from buying something from a store only to see it broken, cuz some schmuck bought it, broke it, jammed it back into the box, then returned it without saying anything. To me, that's stealing. And it's a pain in the a$$ to take back and embarrassing to go back and say "um, this was broken," concerned that the suspicion will be cast on me, but I want it off the shelf so no other hapless person buys it.

I would love to hear the other side as well, to be honest. I am skeptical it's not going to happen though, but it would be nice.

Would love to hear his side of the story... As would most of the others on this thead I bet!

Doubt that he has the balls to post though.

When I ask for a replacement part, I expect to either wait until the old one has been received by the vendor or I expect to pay for the replacement also until the old one has been received by the vendor and then I receive a credit. I don't have a problem with that, but then I don't return stuff that I've destroyed.
