IIRC, my friend's NSX went through tires like crazy. I believe it was the rears/inboard.

Great car, accord reliability, near supercar performance when new, not so super compared to what is out there now. Would love to have one. Ideal daily driver if you ask me. |

NO low end torque, feel pretty weak unless you are up in the rev range, which is true of a lot of cars I guess. More power delivery than power

I had the pleasure of getting some laps in at Shannonville with a 1990 NSX and a 1990 964 C2, they were both lapping similar times, but the NSX sounded like sex, just a glorious wail, and the NSX felt much more composed.

Viper? Zoom, Zoom.
Sweet ride too. Even tighter for the big guy though, ha, ha. Ryan, you don't look 235Lbs man? |
Low end is every Honda's weak point. I drove an s2000 when they first came out. Sucked mightily. Wouldn't pull a greased string out of a cat's ass. Revved to 9k though. If you're comfortable driving around at 6k & above, performance was good. They turn good lap times & suck on the street.

I had a friend (died) who used to work for JD Power and Assoc. One day he showed up with one , it was a mule for the auto magazine reporters, it had been driven hard every day of its like I drove it for a few hours. Every control is right where you think it should be. Lots of fun.

My buddy here has one, nice car. Definately different than my 74 911!
Check out nsxprime.com for a forum, not a lot of DIY though. |
NSX is a great ride, hardly what I'd consider "rice". It's a legitimate sports car with balls to go along with the looks.
That said, I still prefer my "old" 911. :) |

Yea, I test-drove the S2K they had on the lot when I ended up buying my SLK. If you drive the ever-loving p1ss out of it, it's great. But something about keeping the revs up over 6,000 RPM all the time would be very annoying for street use, not to mention getting the attention/ire of the popo.

I've often thought of buying an early one, and may still. The next gen is supposed to have a 4.5 V10 available. And a MUCH NEEDED restyle.
Hopefully it will be a LOT better looking. The old/current is not ugly, but has those weird, bland, uninspiring awkward proportions the Japanese (particularly Honda in the past) are so well known for. Looks like a kit car Camaro. IMO |
Congrats Mr. Ocean. At the ALMS race at Lime Rock last year they had a Porsche & an Acura corral. Must have been 30 NSX's. SWEEEEET. The styling is timless. I was at the Detriot auto show in the late 80's when the Viper was a concept car. I remember my buddy and I saying it was to bad it would never be made!!!

Awesome cars. A friend of mine's father had one for track duty, he managed to drop a good amount of weight from it, then added a supercharger. Supposedly it was an absolute beast.

I three tmes attempted to buy a '97+ NSX. All 3 sellers flaked out on me at the last minute.
Anyway, I asked NSX owners (who own or previously owned Porsches) for comparison. Here is a reply from (I think) a Italian racer: I have had 5 "classic" Porsches 1981 3.3 Turbo (300 hp Euro car) 1975 2.7 Carrera (MFI 210 hp Euro car) 1989 3.2 Carrera (231 hp Euro car) 1992 Carrera 4 1971 2.2 Targa (which I still have). I'm writing them up not to show off, but because it gives me a big pleasure to remember those dear friends (the cars of course). Now I also have a 91 NSX with the NSX-R 6-speed box, big Brembo brakes, Taitec headers and Lightweight exhaust, plus 17" wheels all around. The general performance of this car is absolutely fantastic and will outperform each of my Porsches. It's a big pleasure to drive too. Having said that....well there is something in a Porsche that no other car has. Something that makes your heart beat a bit faster (no, it's not its handling at the limit ). It's difficult to describe, but you know what it is, don't you? ...and that something you may not find in an NSX. And for that matter surely not in a post 993 Porsche. IMHO. The reason why I love my NSX is that it combines high precision engineering, with reliability and still "some" of the heart, so strongly embedded in the old Porsches. |
It's surprising to read that so many criticize Honda for not restyling / updating the NSX. It really is a classic high-end sports car design. We are so quick to criticize Porsche with each new version of the 911, yet we think that Honda should have done the same with the NSX.
I for one...really like the design and believe they were right to maintain the platform as they did. |
Here's a couple of '09 NSX concepts...2nd one looks like the latest "Z" car (ugh):
