Do sea lions and whales vote in Alaska?
Or are the normal Alaskan voters just naive or incredibly stupid to repeatedly elect total misfits?
Sen. Ted Stevens has got to be just about the most worthless piece of ***** that we currently have in Congress. If he is not the poster boy for "scummy politician" then his picture must surely be next to the term in the dictionary. They cancel his $320 million "Bridge to nowhere" and we see video's of federal agents taking stuff out of his home during an investigation of his alleged corruption and how does Sen. Ted get punished....he is allowed to attach over $520,000,000.00 to the current spending bill in "earmarks" for Alaska! That useless prik should get an "earmark"...but not the money kind! ![]() BTW, Alaska also has a member of the US House of Reps. named Don Young who is probably just as worthless and corrupt as Stevens. Two for the price of one...or would that be two for the price of a bridge? Last edited by WI wide body; 12-21-2007 at 03:06 PM.. |

Dead Indians vote on reservations, I don't see why whales and seals can't vote. The problem with them is they are more or less nomadic, I am sure I am using the wrong term here but maybe bears vote there. At least they stay year round.

Do you really think he's any worse than Sen ( was in the KKK) Byrd of W. Va or the idiot from Nevada Harry Reid ? Or what about that C U Next Tuesday Nancy Pelosi ?
Come on , AK is no different than the other 49 states.. At least you can carry a side arm in AK

Byrd is the king of pork. Stevens may come in second, but no one will ever beat Byrd. Coburn is the polar opposite of those guys. God bless him.

Yes, Senators Byrd and Reid are among the worst. And Pelosi often seems simply stupid. In fact, Reid to me is particularly bad. He probably has more lobbyists around the table when the Reid's have a family gathering than most of will ever meet in lifetime. I think that his wife and a couple of his kids or their spouses are lobbyists. That's borderline criminal to me. But what does any of that have to with Stevens? Let me give you a little tip: when the only argument you have against what someone is doing or has done is that there are other people equally bad or worse...then you have both a weak argument and a lame position. Especially you GOP backers who use as your yardstick the very people that you so despise. If you would stop and think about it...you might see how absurd that is. Now, let's get back on subject...since none of the questionable politicians you mention have near the ethics or corruption issues that Sen. Stevens does. And very few of them had pictures of FBI agents carrying evidence out of their homes. ![]() A recent report for 2006 indicated that Alaska led the nation with $489 per capita and it was less than half of Alaska’s 2005 per capita number of $985. Guess why? "Alaska’s drop can be attributed to Sen. Ted Stevens’ (R-Alaska) descent from the throne as Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman." Thus my point. And you are corrct about Sen. Coburn. He and that Jeff Flake guy who is a GOP member of the House from AZ are among a very small group in Congress that are trying to clean up the mess that the old time scum like Byrd, Stevens, Inouye, Burns, Reid, etc etc etc have created. What they do per earmarks may not be illegal...but it sure as hell is not honest or moral. |

oh my point wasn't that the GOP was any better, in fact it they are worse because they belong to the "smaller government party" what a joke!!!

Honestly, I just watched a piece on him on C-SPAN and although he seems a bit kooky I still do not see any reason not to vote for or at least support Ron Paul in the primaries. (I get to register as both Dem and GOP)
He's seems to be more of a true conservative than any of the GOP clowns and he doesn't seem near as scary as any of the political animals on the Dem list. I do doubt and question if he could assemble a qualified team of the size required of a president. But.....what could be worse than what we now have? ![]() |

I'll vote for Paul in the VA primary, though I'm pretty sure the nomination will be locked up before then. If Paul wins, he's probably just hire the whole CATO Inst. as his staff and cabinet.

If the greatest and wisest leader of all time entered into USA national politics he would have zero chance of succeeding unless he locked up with either the GOPor the Dems. And once he did that he would slowly but certainly lose most of the qualities that made him wisest/greatest. That's the reaity of it unless we somehow change the current mess. However, it would be extremely interesting to see exactly who Ron Paul would appoint to the various critical agencies in contrast to the mostly political pay-off type people that the GOP and Dems normally appoint. |

Several more reasons for term limits and any one person gets to spend two terms in ANY branch of the govt then has to leave and get a real job...

Alaska is near the north pole.
+There are unknown oil/NG reserves there. +The galciers are melting, allowing for drilling rigs. +Russia is claiming territory.

And per your accent: are you like the guys who worked at the plant where I transferred to in Southside Va...they would "ax" me questions and show me where something was located by saying it's "ritecheer". ![]() The one they would always point out that us Chicago area folks would (and do) say is "youse" instead of "you are". |

SML must not have always been quite as attractive/popular as it is now. I've got a great story about it. One of the older guys that I played golf with in Danville was a great guy but very ordinary and down to earth. He had driven a cab in Danville for many years and then worked at "the mill' until he retired at 65 with virtually no pension. But he was a happy guy who made the best of life. One day he says that he would like to ask me a question. He tells me how long, long ago he and his son (who was my age) had leased some property up at SML from the electric company until the electric company told them they had to buy or move out. He said his son didn't want to buy the property. My first thought was "Oh no, I'm gonna get into a family squabble." He proceeds to tell me how he finally told his son that he was going to buy the land since they had built a nice little cabin and improved the boat dock and got the whole place looking good. I think it was $1950 that it cost them at that time and his son wrote letters to the electric company telling them how they had screwed his dad. After telling me all that ole Stan says that last week some realtor wanted to put his property on the market (he and his son had up-graded the "cabin" to a nice 3 br home) and he wondered if I thought it was possible what the realtor said was true since he wanted to start out at $675,000.00!! I told Stan that it probably was worth around that much and that he had made one hell of a good decision to go ahead and buy it. He was a great guy who unfortunately died last year at 87. He probably never earned $10K in any year and he was simply astounded about the Smith Mountain deal. I bet that his son sure is happy that his dad didn't listen to him! |
