valve trombone

I've always wanted one.

I've been playing slide trombone since 6th grade. ( I'm 39 now )
Not so much lately, though. I keep it on it's stand in the living room next to my drums and trumpet.
I'll blow a few tunes out now and then.

So, a long time associate, out of the blue, buys one for me.
Wow!

It's pretty old. I'd guess 50-70 years. Silver plated. Has a few dents and some worn/tarnished areas.
I need to do a tune up, but it has great valve action.
Sweet mellow sound.

I haven't played in a performing band for some time now, but this is motivating me again.

It's a "Whaley and Royce", standard piston valved.

A little research just now has revealed this company started in 1888 and sold out in 1969.
It may be some sort of speciality bugle corps or marching horn.

Still looking.

Cool. I play trombone also, or I did until I started having too little time. A valve trombone is on my list to buy one day. A flugelbone wouldn't be bad either. And I like Wayne's idea of the slide trumpet or would it be a soprano trombone?

As a trombone info aside, I ran across this Marshall Gilkes fellow on youtube the other day (Darn Pelican OT guitar thread that started with Eric Johnson and ended with me going to bed at 3:00am or so). It's sort of just a practice solo, but I thought it was pretty good. Certainly much better than I've ever played. Here's the link:
