I think news should be more like a utility than a product. Because when it's a product, this is what you get:

That's exactly what I said when I saw the report today!

As Al Bundy once said" Go ahead Marcy, feed the bears."

CNN was reporting that the guys that were attacked were taunting the tiger before the attack.

The only news that is a Utility is NPR and it is worse than the above graph.

NPR is a little fluffier than it used to be, but it's far and away the best US based alternative.

I quit listening to them in the late 90's because of the Boznia war coverage. It wasn't fluff, it was insessant whining. I expect their Darfur coverage is similar. I always found it very ironic that ADM was one of the major funders. And I hated the begging, begging, begging, every 3 months. Howard Stern was a breath of fresh air...

Had a local NYC news crew outside the gate of the Bronx Zoo last night.

There is "concern" local residents may be in danger!

Just pathetic.

Rest assured the human killer has been put down. Probably when found back in it's cage.

Hey, I'm at least happy they've turned to tiger attacks instead of long discussions on how to cook a turkey or lose weight after the holidays or how to not offend strangers at your dinner table. It's just unreal what you see on the news these days. I've actually seen shows explaining in great detail how to have a conversation at the Xmas dinner table! Yeah, because anyone watching that show probably hasn't been to at least 20-30 such dinners in their lifetimes. Remember all the reports about shark attacks around 2001-2002? Why did they stop those? Did sharks stop attacking people?

As Chris Rock said about Roy Horn being attacked:

Yup. Very sad. I understand that once a wild animal kills a human, that animal is likely to associate all humans with food. BUT, they're supposed to keep those things away from all humans anyway. It's not like I'd be any more willing to wrestle with a Polar Bear just because it was bred and raised in captivity. They need to not punish the animals and just make sure the habitat is secure for both the animals and the humans. Sadder still, I'm sure the zoo will be sued to near bankruptcy so even fewer people will get to see these magnificent animals.

The AP wrote up the article today for our paper, Tiger kills man. This is sad and I dont make light of it, but-----------The police chief of SF said " the animal was mauling the man, and when officers YELLED at it to stop, it turned on them". Great job coppers, I'm sure the animal understood what YOU were SAYING, and thought no, I'll just go on about my way. This stuff cant be make up.

This just in:

"SAN FRANCISCO - The director of the zoo where a teenager was killed by an escaped tiger acknowledged Thursday that the wall around the animal's pen was just 12 1/2 feet high — well below the height recommended by the accrediting agency for the nation's zoos. "

I'd rather deal with a tiger in a zoo than a cougar in a bar.

The bartender says ,"I'm sorry, we don't serve bada$$ bears beer in this bar".
The bear growls, "i'm a badas$ bear and if you don't give me a beer, I'll grab that b!tch off that barstool and eat her".
