Nah, not counting chips early, I'd just take my 20% now, put it all in a 5.5% CD, kick back and end up at the end of the year with a guaranteed 25% return on the year!

Well actually..........I shorted the entire S & P 500 in early Jan. ;)

Late to the party; not sure what the early January price was; and don't like the idea of having to pick just one stock for the whole year, but will stick with a poorly performing choice from last year: GSS (Golden Star Resources, a small gold miner that I still think is likely to be acquired at some point -- maybe not this year -- by a larger mining company.)

Hey, wait a minute ... can I just wait and pick my stock on Dec 31st of 2008?

Some of these late picks look mighty clairvoiant 3 1/2 weeks into the year. Might be a little fairer if the late picks had to start at the close price of the day they posted their pick?

Perhaps, but I don't think a one month head start will make that big of a difference as we make our way to the end of the year.

One goal of mine was to see who could pick the best performing stock for the calendar year.

WCG was doing well until yesterday (took a 12% dip just yesterday, which kinda' sucked). I'm sticking with it for a while though.

POT looks decent right now.

I don't know if I am too late to the game, but my pick for the year would be Tenet Health Care THC. It's my, "if the dems win it could see a nice bump pick."

At this point - yes, but last Wednesday Piper Jaffray reiterated their buy rating and $250 price target on AAPL.

It's a great buying opportunity right now. I just added a chunk on Friday.
