They went 14-2 in 90 and would have won their 3rd consecutive. I didn't state what I meant correctly. Even historians can make a mistake and I didn't use google.

I was more impressed with Ty Laws interception for a TD (caused by Vrabel), Anwan Harris's forced fumble and recovery that he returned to the 40 yard line and Otis Smiths INT followed by a Vivateri field goal in addition to his 48 yarder at the end to win it. Had it not been for stellar Defensive play by the Pats, Brady would have never had a chance.

Didn't they win the Super Bowl in 1994 ?

Wasn't Brady the Super Bowl MVP ?

JCF 01-09-2008 06:08 PM

I had to check because you put the doubt in me but the niners certainly did win in '94.
And Brady was named MVP in that Super Bowl.

So Mr History - who is buried in Grants Tomb ? :)

Red Baron 01-09-2008 06:10 PM

Never said he wasn't MVP and I knew he was, thanks to the defense they won the game.
Larry Brown was MVP for SB XXX so your point is?

What "they" are you talking about? 49ers won it.

JCF 01-09-2008 06:13 PM

Well, they usually give it to The Most Valuable Player - M - V - P
get it ?

JCF 01-09-2008 06:14 PM

THE NINERS !!!

Never knew Brady played at the Niners before playing at Michigan.

Maybe Steve Young is buried there and it was Brady all along.

You said you made a mistake when Hater Matt said the niners did not appear in a SB after '90implying that you agreed that they did not appear in a SB after 1990.

JCF 01-09-2008 06:24 PM

I was answering the two threads above it.

1) re the niners in the 94 game
2) Brady being SB MVP

But ( I hope ) you realized that.

I said I was talking about they went 14-2. I was clarifying what I said.
Between these posts I've put my 5 year old daughter to bed, took a shower and answered a phone call.
I'm not trying to cover every possible question or play NFL trivia.

The thread is about Montana and what he accomplished. That's what I posted about. I only mentioned Brady because his name was brought up in the thread as a comparison. That's all. Quit crying in your chowda because some people have the opinion that there have been as good or better QB's than Brady.

I did realize it. And maybe now you understand why I didn't cover every point made by Matt or even consider it.

JCF 01-09-2008 06:32 PM

Yeah, I think this has been taken further than it needed to go.

Red Baron 01-09-2008 06:46 PM

FWIW, I believe Brady is a helluva QB. One of the best now and top 25 all time. And that first Pats SB victory was a stellar game. I went to it. IMO, the defense was the overall key to that game. Brady and Vinateri got to be the heroes because of their efforts. I have a friend that is a coach on the staff and has been since that season.

Mule 01-10-2008 06:36 AM

This is simple, have the Pats had 12-4 competition in their division during their run of success?

Another minor point in comparing Joe to Brady, Joe was doing things no one had done, or even seen, before. Using the pass to set up the run was unheard of. Also, Joe dominated Super Bowls. He didn't rely on the kicker & his defense. Joe Montana, innovator, 4X Champion, greatest of all time!

My wife, who's quite a knowledgeable football fan, was one of Montana's most ardent fans during the Niner's reign in the '80s. She went to every home game and on Sundays when they were away, she was glued to the TV and never missed a play. While working on projects in the garage during a game, I could tell how things were going just by how much yelling & screaming I could hear coming from in the house. I often wondered what the neighbors must've thought.
We once had the opportunity to meet Joe & Jennifer Montana and I thought my wife would just be gushing all over the man and want to talk his ears off. Instead, she was struck speechless by his mere presence and couldn't utter a single word....didn't even ask for an autograph. But she did have the biggest *****-eating grin on her face for hours afterward.

Joe Cool...you bet! I feel privileged to have seen one of the greatest ever play the game.
