Wow, not nice churches you guys have in the USA

Obviously I know this is not normal Christianity, but this is why I choose not to be religious...

Not only is it not normal Christianity... oh, never mind.

I'm not a violent person, but I think if I met Fred Phelps in person, I'd likely have my first punch thrown in anger. He is a very pathetic man, and I trust that when he dies he will pay one way or another.

i thought this was going to be about the buildings itself.

"While its members somehow identify themselves as "Baptists", the group is independent and not in any affiliated with any known Baptist conventions or associations, nor does any Baptist institution recognize it as a Bible-believing fellowship."

Yes, but let's be fair. There are churches who attend to the needs of the homeless and sick, the addicted and other sufferers. Albeit, real Christianity.

"The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), a Kansas-based congregation known for its demonstrations outside funerals for US soldiers killed in Iraq, "

-Christian indeed, pardon me if I interrupt your Little hatefest-

" 39"But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

40"If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.

41"Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.

42"Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

43"You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.'

44"But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

45so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

"34But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together.

35 One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him,

36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?"

37 And He said to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'

38 "This is the great and foremost commandment.

39 "The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'

40 "On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."

If I attended a funeral of a service man killed while serving and those Westboro nuts showed up to protest, I'd be looking for an ax handle to teach them a few manners.

The axe handle would need a few nails through the end.

Once again I would remind everyone who wants to blabber about religion...one way or the other...that they should take the time to read what one of the founding fathers of our nation Thomas Paine wrote over 200 years. It's even more true today than when he wrote it.

Yes, I know that actually reading a book is not nearly as popular as posting or looking at dumb-ass video's, but give it a shot and see what you get out of it. It's title is "The Age of Reason" and (for the attention span challenged among us) most of the good stuff is in the introduction.;)

Good luck.

Dude, this is one church with 71 to 150 members. I know you say "not normal...". But even so, one small group (of total whack jobs) in no way represents Christianity.

I can't imagine any Christian (and I know tons) that wouldn't be enraged by this kind of poison.

Just sayin...

Yeah I figured they'd be a minority, but I couldn't get over the venom and hate... An actor is one thing, but to picket a fallen soldier is just outrageous.

I can guarantee if that ever happened here in Australia, the'd need police protection.

I never grew up in a Christian household, but when I was a young boy a Christian friend of mine told me never to be sacreligous. He explained that it was the one sin that God could not forgive. We were just boys. Ever since that day many, many years ago I have never challenged another persons belief system; I simply worked on my own.

My relationship is between me and God, its personal, period.

Now I know we all come from all different walks of life and there's literally posters from around the world here, so lets show a little respect, shall we?

BTW, I've never opened the "God" thread and I'm not going back to the abortion thread again; my choice, but some of these guys are down right confrontational and personal with their posts.

Problem over here is that they do get "police protection" as well as not paying any taxes for all the benefits they do receive.
