No Rolex Daytona Thread?

I'm DVR-ing it. I have a busy day today. I'll catch up later and watch the finish live tomorrow.

So far the highlight was the idiot driving the 911 GT-3 who crashed BEFORE he got to the start/finish line at the beginning of the race!

Yeah, a small cluster of the GT-3 cars have gotten up to around 15th or 16th overall behind the DP all out race cars.

TRG is running seven, yes seven GT3 Cup cars. Think Buckler wants to win over Pontiac this year? And Farnbacher Loles with six cars. That's a lot of Porsche there.

I'm impressed with how well some of those mazdas are running. I know that the little rotaries in them aren't at the power levels of the other motors so i wonder what rules needed tweaking to make them competitive?

I was having a hard time keeping up last night, every time I left the room or my wife thought I was not paying attention she would change the darn channel.

What happened to the Brumos DP Cars?

The RX-8's seem to be running strong...

I believe the RX8 is a tube frame race car and they are allowed to run several hundred pounds lighter due to engine displacement. But I give them credit they have been leading GT for most of the race. Also encouraged by Brumos and Alex Job Porsche powered DPs. They have had their issues but they seem to be much more competive than last year.

Less than 23 minutes and things are not looking well for a Porsche win. May not even have a podium finish in DP.

Here's me teaching the current race leader, Scott Pruett, how to take turn 7 at Sears last year...

I so proud of him

Seriously, he's very friendly and helped me "get" turn 7, myself.

You're completely right the DP cars are boring since they are just cookie cutter race cars. Plus the 997s are only cup cars since the GT3RSR would give the DP cars a run for the overall win.

Found the rules for the GT cars
http://grand-am.com/assets/GTRules.pdf
The gt3 cup cars as far as i can tell are the only cars that don't get much modification. The rx-8, which won btw, is a prep 2 car, which means it is semi-tube framed. It also uses a 20B 3 rotor engine instead of the 13B that comes in the stock car.
