Strategy for Silencing Superman

Guys, my 911 is bent-enough that it may not make sense to try to straighten her. That puts me in mourning. Pisses me off.

Plus, it fails to solve one of the various psychological problem I have.....namely my inability to take a drive in a 911. So.....I am hoping to find a solution. Another car perhaps, with some go-fast parts perhaps but a tired motor or no motor or some other problem....that I can transplant my parts into and get back onto the road.

That's where you guys come in. I'll probably launch brutal personal attacks on you guys, and wail and moan about your beliefs, and probably rub your faces in the various embarrassing mis-steps of your "president" and his political party......until I come up with a project that can restore my 911 driving needs.

Find me a tub, cheap, that's got stiff torsion bars, race seats, etc.

Just keep scanning the "for sale" section here...I'm sure something will pop up, sooner or later, more than likely.

I can't imagine that even a big increase in your level of befuddlement will even be noticeable.

If it makes you feel better, my 911 isn't running right now either.

I saw a nice red mid eighties wide body turbo body in there for $8,000 just over a year ago.

Is this something new?

Seriously though, beat the internet to death. Hemmings, Craigslist, Autotrader, Collector Car Trader, Cars.com, Ebay, Rennlist, Pelican, PCA. Make it a habit to do a daily scan, and make your search a national one. You should find your fix in no time.

Thanks, guys. I knew I could count on you to agree with the vicious personal attack thing. In fact, you could show your hatred by alerting me to tubs available. Kinda like candy and flowers on Valentine's Day, only in reverse. I know sincerity when I see it, and some of you might be in a position to signal your disdain for my remarks here in the form of a reference to purchase opportunities. I would appreciate that.

Yes, I have been looking. As it turns out, Targas are as easy to buy as a pack of cigarettes. Coupes, not so much.

while sitting freezing cold and wet in a rest stop off the 101 freeway outside of Paso Robles yesterday waiting for a flatbed to show up for a 240 mile tow, I pondered selling my car. Would fit your bill, although maybe too race prepped.

No such thing as too race-prepped. Well okay, my friend's 914 is so stiff it feels like the axles are welded to the tub. But that's not an entirely bad thing.

What is freezing cold for SoCal, 60?

this was in central CA, and I'd estimate low 40's, driving rain and about 25mph winds. To a native SoCal person, that is arctic

Try sitting in a dead 911 for 3 hours waiting for a tow truck under those conditions. Sure, could be worse but it wasn't fun.

Supe,

I worry about you. Your post has a forced language, displaying a mood and level of motivation that ..well, scares me a bit. You don´t sound yourself. Hope you are alright.

That sucks, Todd. When we were on our epic road trip last Spring, I imagined how much it would suck to need a tow in the middle of nowhere. Thankfully, we didn't have any breakdowns.

Jim, how hard can it be to find an SC tub? SC's are the Chevy's of Porsche 911's.

I'm okay. Stressed. Funny thing is, I like stress. Kinda like eating good Mexican food. Wrecking a 911 you are passionate about, and proud of as a recently-finished mechanical restoration, and enjoy driving......does not help. Thanks for the concern. I'm fine.

Nostatic, when my accident occurred, I was probably in the weather for about three hours. More than two. It was POURING cold rain. Cold rain. By the time the wrecker came, the car had at least an inch of standing water on the floorboards. For a Southern Californian, it was probably not survivable.

240 mile tow. The only good thing was AAA Premiere, so the first 200 miles was free. The rest was $4/mile. Sweet.

Supe, buy a teener. You know you want it.

For around $4k you could do a SIX conversion with your motor on a cheap 914 roller.
Put it this way, for about $10k total you could produce a car that would spank near all.

I'm very happy with a 2 liter. I can only imagine a 3.0 or 3.2...uhhhhhhhh.

Seriously. Coupes are not easy to find. Plus, after settling for under $10K as a settlement for a mechanically perfect SC, I wonder how responsive I'm going to be when someone tries to sell me an SC with 175K miles that has had nothing done to it.....for $13K. Frankly, that's a "ready for restoration" project. It is several thousands of dollars shy of being in the same condition my $9,600 SC was in. Can you tell I'm not satisfied with insurance games? Guess what. Next time I'm hit like that, I'll leave the scene in an ambulance.
