Snow Day

Work was canceled today because we got a foot of snow.

Which is the reason I haven't been online all day.

Oh well, I still get paid for not working...

So do many of the people here, even if they are at work.

Snow? They cancel work for a lousy foot of snow?

My wife has spent all week driving across Washington state for work, from Seattle to Spokane. About 800 miles all told, with about 500 miles of it in snow.
Passes have been closed, avalanches, record snowfalls.
Did they cancel her trip because of the dangers? Noooo.....
She was almost trapped in Eastern Washington, but they did get a pass open.

Here's some pics.

Her FJ Cruiser.

A couple vehicles in her hotel parking lot. They ain't goin' NOWHERE

Somewhere undeer here, there are cars..

SOmeone's driveway. Note, the height of that...snow...

Yeah, yesterday was great, I got the phone call at 6:30 am saying work was closed, convinced my buddy to knock of work early and take his Subaru around some quiet, snow covered roads. I understand that SUV's are good in the snow, but they can't compare to the fun of a WRX in the snow! Last month we took it out in snow that was higher than the fenders, it never missed a beat. Fun to watch the steam rising from the intercooler, too.

I got stuck in Tahoe a few days in a blizzard once. Plenty of firewood, so no worries when the power went out. Got to ski on the Mount Rose Hwy, right up to the scenic overlook. Had pictures of the same spot in January and in February, one with barely any snow, one with 6ft of fresh

Skier's paradise pretty much everywhere in North America this year. Nice contrast from recent years, this is the first "normal" winter in a while.

That generally is my opinion as well, I grew up where the roads were frequently closed due to snow storms. The road were truly impassable so it made sense. Shoveling snow from the driveway 3 or 4 times a day was normal.

I then moved to Toronto and saw the panic when it snows and I just couldnt understand it. I guess it comes down to the lowest skilled driver on the road. I have snow tires and grew up driving in snowy conditions so generally have no problem, Its the guy on bald allseasons next to me that I worry about. I canceled a meeting in Toronto on Friday because of the coming "storm". I worked from home, the news reported 900+ accidents on Friday. I went snowboarding

Chicago and points north got pounded too. I was unlucky enough to find myself heading north, very slowly, out of the loop at 4:30 on Thursday. It took me 2 hours to get 10 miles. It took me 7 hours to get back to Wisconsin - normally a 2 hour trip.

Snow? This in from a friend who lives in the Cascade foothills, about 40 miles east, and 1,000 feet above me near HWY 20, which is a mile from my home at mp 11.

"yes we have a **** load of snow around 3ft give or take 6inches depending where you measure on the place .i think i am here till spring.Kevin has been pushing snow with his truck for the last 3 weeks . he keep the driveway plowed out with our 20yr old 4 wheeler at first. now i think it will take his 4 wheel drive studded snow tires and chains and prayers
] i guess ODOT just closed the big steel gate at the mt. house. a few years ago they put up a big gate that they can just close when ever they want to stop all traffic. but i guess there is a big snow slide between 70mp and 83. the old mill turn was about mp43 i think mt house is about 10 miles east . this snow is just beautiful as i sit in the warm house i might have a different view if i had to work in it. or travel to work like Kevin ever day of the world.
anyway we are fine
hope you are all fine also"

She is parapalegic, yet she and her hubby choose to live "off the grid" in a remote area. (edit) Here's a road cam link to the Santiam Pass...people here in the valley cannot reach Hoodoo ski bowl. Too much snow!

No drought in Eastern Oregon next summer...

Rob you're killing me with all these snowmobile pics. We just got the lake house last summer, so we are slowly accumulating all the requisite toys. The pontoon boat is coming this summer to accompany the ski boat and waverunner. I am pushing hard for snowmobiles for next winter, but they might get pushed back as we have some renovations to make first.

Hey Garrett,
Sounds like alot of fun, congrats!
Life's a Beach, then you die.

I can't wait for summer again. I stopped in at my cabin and checked on things.
My dock is taking a beating with the ice; but I wasn't able to get it out of the lake this year.

As for the sleds, Santa delivered two Artic Cat M800's, they're awesome on a drive on/ drive off trailer. I'm getting out two or three times a week now. Planning a big ride for tomorrow; 7:30AM start and up the hill we go. No Superbowl couch patatoes in the group. Ha, ha.

Have fun, I'll look forward to seeing a thread about your place at the lake!
