Boxster vs. Cayman...PLEASE help me decide.
I am just about going out of my mind trying to pick a new car.
I'm going to stick with a base Boxster or a Cayman (currently in a 2002 boxster). Yes, I did contact the local hair stylist union, and they are processing my application as we speak. They mentioned something about a test I need to take in the SeaTac restroom, which I found kind of strange...... ![]() Help me out there. I was about to buy the boxster last week, I love having a convertable, but....dear lord.. JUST LOOK at the freaking caymans! They are pornographic they look so good! And the handling....the boxster is no slouch, but the cayman is razor. I am truly perplexed as to what to do. Please vote, comments welcome. Here are the cars. ( You can easily find them on auto trader. Zip 98101): 2006 base boxster, $38,685, decent options but no xeon. 8000 miles. ![]() 2007 base cayman, $43,995, again decent but no xeon, nice 19" wheels, 8200 miles. ![]() |

Will you ever drive with the top down?
Tell you what, buy both, give me the one you don't want...

Same price? It's a question of hardtop vs convertible, since they are almost the same car. Wish the Cayman had a moonroof. The Cayman is a hatchback, so there's a difference. Which has more luggage space?
I don't miss a hardtop at all with the Boxster. Great in cold weather and rain--just keep the top up.

The Cayman has more luggage space. You can put stuff on top of the engine...

They are not the same price. The cayman is about $5000 more.
It really does sort of come down to weather I'm going too miss the convertable. I do drive it with the top down during the summer quite a bit. I guess my attraction to the cayman is that is feels like a huge step up from the boxster. I KNOW they are the same car, but it really doesn't seem that way. Boxsters are sort of long in the tooth at this point. But the Cayman.....its something new and exotic. It looks fantastic. All logic goes out the window with these cars, doesn't it? I'd go with the boxster because you can have the top down...however if you plan on tracking it all that might start to sway the the vote back towards the cayman a bit.
Just my $.02

In my mind, the only thing you get with the Boxster over the Cayman is the option to drive with the top down on a nice day. The Cayman would be my pick (but I'm biased).
The Cayman has more room because of the storage on top of the engine cover and feels less claustrophobic inside. It's something like 100% stiffer than the Boxster so it is a bit sharper in handling. It's not as common. |

When I buy another P-Car, it'll be a Boxster not a Cayman. If the C came with a sunroof, I'd consider it. I like fresh air and when I roll down the windows in my 911 coupe, the noise is deafening. Funny thing is, there is less noise in my targa with the top off and the windows up.

Not difficult. You have had a Boxster for some time. You like it but you can not get the sexy Cayman out of your mind. Only one thing to do. Try one. If you miss the top down driving you can always go back later.
The itch has been triggered. No going back.

HDD, go with the Cayman.
It won't leak. Seriusly though. I love the Cayman. It handles GREAT. Someday, I'll get one. It's really the only new car Porsche has that turns me on, style-wise.

I sat in a Boxster waiting for the 325 to be prepped and fit nicely, which is always an issue for me since I'm 6'4"...the Cayman felt cramped. Nice problem to have, btw, they are both desirable ![]()

If you are a convertible guy, you won't like the Cayman. I wouldn't trade my 993 Cab for anything (unless it had 2 turbos hanging off the back
