There are some very nice, and scenic roads up in that area. Get up with me Procon, and I'll tell you about a few.

I was a guest of the Sheriff in Newland many years ago.

If I make it or not your welcome to crash at my vacation home for the night.

Its in town with Procon and has a garage. Jay has the key if I cannot get away for this.

Otherwise we shall see each other in the spring.

Jay, thanks for the pics it looks like a blast. BTW- I got your message this morning I'll call this evening.

Shadetree930 02-05-2008 05:28 AM

OK, I have checked out the proposed route. It makes the Dragon look more like a gecko. The proposed route is SWEET.

Jay, you are such a tease! LOL :D

I used to do a ton of Mtn Biking in WNC in my racing days... Every spring I would spend a week in Bryson City training.

I remember a road out of Bryson, that goes to a never completed tunnel.

I miss that area of the country.

Reading the thread title immediately made me think of Merlin...

Had a blast

Met Jay on "the road". It was as described, miles of hard twisties on a nearly deserted road. We did 28 miles and only had to deal with one car going in our direction.

Here is a sample of the road:

The true sign of a Pelican:

I gotta get me one of these:

This road really needs to be kept under wraps for a while until we are tired of it. ;)

The last thing we want is it to become another Dragons Tail. :D

Shadetree930 02-11-2008 03:08 PM

Jim,

I could not tell anyone where this road was if they tried to waterboard it out of me.

Jay blindfolded me and confiscated my GPS before he flatbedded me to the jumping off point. Then blindfolded and flatbed for me on the way out as well. But the road time in between .... mmm mmm good.

tonypeoni 02-11-2008 03:09 PM

The finest road Ive ever driven is California 1. Carmel By The Sea to the Big Sur. Amazing.

Shadetree930 02-11-2008 03:14 PM

Jay,

I was too busy trying to keep up with you to count the curves. Hoping to do the curve counting once the vids are up.

911Rob 02-11-2008 03:16 PM

I'm drooling! ;)

In the spirit of Pelican Brotherhood, it is wrong to not share.

That's why we don't tell the Miata and Corvette folks. Maybe a pledge of secrecy prior to a PM of the map?

Shadetree930 02-11-2008 04:19 PM

Jay,

I ran out tonight and bought the mount. Tried it out on the way home from BB. Worked great! Wide-angle lens is on order.

SCWDP911 02-11-2008 06:02 PM

Jay,

Thanks for the invite. I wish I could have joined you guys, but I could not get away last w/e. Please email me next time you go as I would love to "unwind" on it sometime... If you ever make out our direction (bewtween Nashville and Memphis) give me a shout and I will show you one here that is one of our local favorites. Might not be as good, but it is good nonetheless.SmileWavy

I drove up through south carolina into north carolina. up over a mountain and I swear north carolina has the most fun roads around.
how they could come up with oval racing makes no sense

Jims5543 02-14-2008 04:18 PM

Jay named the road, Jay named the road, Jay named the road, Jay named the road, Jay named the road, Jay named the road, Jay named the road!!!!

Is it better than the Dragon, lets compare

Dragon
11 miles long 318 turns
Tons of Traffic
LEO all over the place

Jays new road
7 miles long 134 turns (being confirmed)
Not another car on the road
No one goes up there no LEO

Jays new road = Win!
