He didn't even notice ( or care ).

All the rally footage I see seems to include fans dodgeing the cars.
Why do the drivers tolerate this?

Every run, you run the risk of taking out the gallery?!?

I expect to see cars rolling through the crowd.
How do they prevent this?

With that day-glow, yellow-green vest, he looked like an official.

From what I understand the guy was an official, not exactly setting a great example really!

I asked previously (on another 'rally' thread) and got no answer so ....since these do not take place in the lawyer clogged/ambulance chasing USA , can someone in a country where these (rallys) DO take place answer please?

I have seen MANY videos of crowds lining race (rally) courses as in the above video. What happens (legally) if a pedestrian is hit? Is the race car driver REQUIRED to stop? Are the pedestrians/observers/fans notified that they are on their own if they choose to stand/sit/cross so close to the racers?

A race sanctioning body in the USA would be sued out of existence the first time some drunk standing beside the race course was sideswiped, much less killed?

Anyone???

I've attended the Rally of the Tall Pines here in Canada a few times, and I have never seen people taking the risks that we see in some of the videos. I would be curious to head over to some European venue and see what it is like. I understand copious quantities of alcohol might be involved.

What I will say, however, is that the rest of the world does not seem as paranoid about safety as North America is. I can make arguments for and against, but I am finding North Americas insistence that a law must exist for everything asphyxiating. At some point, don't we have to let people make their own choices? Do we really need to live to a standard set for the lowest common denominator?

No disagreement there from me.

But when you have people/plaintiffs getting paid large settlements for spilling HOT COFFEE in their laps (How was I to know? Sniff...Sniff. Cha CHING!) we (USA) sure seem to be headed down the road to ..."It's someone else's fault ...Not mine!!"

I'm just glad I don't have to do his laundry. That would surely need a thorough rinse before putting in the machine with your work shirts.

Gotta bump this.

Is there no one (abroad, where these ralleys are held) that can tell us how the local jurisdiction/state laws/federal ...whatever, apply to the safety of the observers on what appear to be public roads?

Is it like 'free range' turkeys out there?

If a car looses control and flies into someone, who's at fault "legally"?
Driver? Race sanctioning body?

or ...No Fault ...bad show ...sorry!???
