Morning Commute Foolishness-contact made!
This is going to be one of those days. I think self fullfilling prophecy is at hand so I probably deserve it. I was commuting with all the other bone heads this a.m. - something I don't normally do in my line of work. It amazes me how rude and brainless people can be. Anyway, after 30 minutes (Yeah, but this is Milwaukee!) it's starting to wear on me a bit. This asshat merges, or I should say barges, on the highway from an entrance ramp in front of me after cruising the shoulder past a bunch of cars. Okay. Just another moron. No big deal. After awhile I find myself in the left lane cruising along nicely past those going slower on the right. Who should I come up on? The asshat. He's in the right lane and I know he's going to cut me off. Bear in mind that I'm going about 10 mph faster than he is and I'm just about overlapping him when he does just that, signals while moving into my lane. I guess that makes it okay! Well, any other day I would have slammed on my brakes and shrugged it off. For whatever reason, today instead of braking, I mashed on the gas and moved over. I didn't swerve over onto the shoulder, I just moved as he moved. In doing so, as went by him, we clicked mirrors. Nothing big and not necessarily intentional on my part, but not unwelcome either. It felt good to check him a bit. Oddly enough nothing escalated. He backed way off, probably thinking I'm insane, and I felt no further need to antagonize him. He seemed to show a little more respect the rest of the time also, so maybe I actually did some good.
I know it was stupid. I won't do it again (probably ![]() |

I hope you weren't driving your Porsche, as it would be a pity to scratch it even slightly by contact with asshat commuters.

I try to be the mature, considerate driver, but sometimes, when I'm in the wrong mood, you've just got to....
I bet he had to change his shorts.

Perhaps the idiot learned a lesson. Surprised you didn't say he was on the phone as well.

Let me guess? Pickup truck? For some reason I see more of the "small penis syndrome" type of driving from people driving pickups and SUVs than any other kind of vehicle. Oddly the people driving BMW and Lexus out here are the best drivers around (I know BMW drivers get a rap sometimes as aggressive a-holes, but I don't see it at all in this part of the country). Most of the time the stupid/a-hole/aggressive crap is from punks with tattoos and piercings driving pickups.

Had two incidents in the last year and I am not proud. Big Van end runs a half mile of traffic to cut into the exit. Clipped him good, but busted a light. $30. he gets out screaming - "didn't you SEE Me??". Yes I did... Clipped an owner operated taxi doing the same thing a few weeks ago. Swapped paint with this brand new cab. Mr. Punjabi was quite surprised.. Good thing I ride the subway everyday to work...

See it every day.
I have gotten to the point where if I see someone talking on the phone, they automatically lose the right of way. Several times I have pulled into 4 way stop sign intersections, stopped and pointed out they should refrain from using there cell phone while driving. If the law had gotten involved in the tale you relate, the other driver would have been cited, unsafe lane change. Illegal not to use hands free here in Cali now, so note the exact time when a telephone zombie hits you. There will be a record of exactly when they were on the phone, which would be a chip for you in court.

... I can forgive the ignorant, we all make mistakes... ...but the guys that make the habit of being tools out on the roads need the pimp hand bad.

6 years ago I was driving from NYC home on 684, a 3-lane highway. It was snowing hard, but at least wet. I was driving my 88 900Turbo with summer RE71's, awesome tires on dry/wet, worthless in snow. Everyone was doing 35.
A Uhaul 14 ft. box truck came up fast "pushing" cars out of the way in the center lane. came up to me, tried to get in the left lane, but there was no where go, and for some reason he dropped back. a few minutes later I see him in the breakdown lane charging fast, he swerves into traffic upon seeing an underpass coming up where the breakdown lanes ends, he cuts off to cars and a big suburban next to me that brakes very hard and the Uhaul keeps coming at me! I squirt ahead the little bit I can when his left front wheel hits just ahead of my right rear wheel. The very hand of God held my car in place, he bounced off of it and as I looked in my rearview mirror, I see him flipping multiple times ending up in a huge spray of snow on the side of the road. NO ONE ELSE CRASHED!!!! I saw on the news later that night that the driver was killed.

A few weeks ago I was driving on a busy road. 45 MPH speed limit with lots of stop lights and moderate/heavy traffic. A lady in a Suburban is weaving all over the road, nearly hitting me and several other drivers. When I pull up next to her at the stoplight she had a latte in one hand and a cell phone in the other. She was having a very animated conversation.
I rolled down my window and started blasting my horn. She rolled down her window and pulled the phone away from her ear. In a very excited voice I told her that her car was on fire. She pulled to the shoulder of the road and jumped out of her car. I'm pretty sure she spilled her coffee.

Shawn - that's quite a story! Darwinism at work and "hand of God" indeed! I'm glad you came out on top on that one. PS - I wasn't driving the P-car. I had my 01 Grand Caravan. Asshat was driving a 90s Astro conversion van License 105-HXX. ![]() |
