Audi V8 going in the back of a 99 beetle with a porsche 996 911 tiptronic transmission. This particular pairing is being done without an adapter plate. This 2003 4.2 from an A8 D3 has the big bell pattern. Different 4.2s have a smaller pattern that catches more bolts. Nevertheless 3 align on this setup. I’m planning to weld a section of the audi bell to the porsche bell to pick up 4 more bolts. I was going to build an extended wheelbase mid engine smart fortwo with an audi 4.2 but i came across this transmission for $260 on marketplace, so i decided to right the historical wrong that occurred in 1998.

Please read carefully before you ask if the car will have 5 reverse speeds and one forward. This is a 911 transaxle with a clockwise engine. If a 911 goes forward this will also.

^^^ How does one initially figure out that 3 of the bellhousing bolts align? I mean, do you just have the trans laying there and decide to see if it might fit? Crazy! Awesome project tho if it all works out!
