Hands free device for 993?

It will be illegal to drive with your cellphone in your hand and up to your ear here soon. What do you all have to plug into your ear(s) while driving? I had a Motorola HS850 bluetooth gizmo and it was crap. Especially in my old truck, there was lots of white noise on the microphone. Also, its speaker was in no way loud enough to overcome the 993 at speed. The thing just hangs over your ear loosely, which makes it nice to wear long times, but it makes little direct contact with your ear.

I am open to anything that works. I do not spend much time on the phone in the car, except for long distance driving on a boring interstate. That is also when the car is loudest. I don't mind something that takes time to install on my head, as I would use it mainly for a longer conversation in long distance drives.

George

there are a number of different "bluetooth" hands free units out there.
i have installed a few variations of the "parrot" all seemed like nice technology, along with units for pioneer/panasonic/etc.

clarion has released a new simple radio with built in bluetooth, sd card slot, am/fm, and aux in, i'll be putting one in my 911 very soon as all i use is my sirius stiletto for audio. retails for less than $150.

I have the factory CD changer and audio. Don't want to rip that out. I want something to put on my head / ears. Thanks!

Motorola T305 Hands-Free Bluetooth clip-on

Works great. A little smaller then a garage opener. About $50.00

I have a GPS that is also a Bluetooth hands free device. I have the Garmin Nuvi 660: ( https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=400 ) (which I got on sale. Don’t pay the price listed on garmin.com). Several other models have this feature as well.

Once configured, the GPS uploads my phone book every time it connects with my phone. It’s a touch screen: I can touch a phone icon, then the phone book icon, then select the person I want to call. There is a microphone on the front of the GPS, and speakers in the back. Or, the GPS has an FM transmitter. Tune your car radio to the right frequency and hear the person you are talking to over your car radio. It also plays MP3’s, either through its speakers or over your radio. The route directions it gives can also be heard over your radio.

If someone calls you, you hear your normal ring tone through the GPS (or car radio), and the GPS screen says “incoming call from X.” There is a big green button to press which answers the call. After you answer the call, the button turns red, which terminates the call.

The POI (point of interest) database has like 6 million items. You can search for, say, Italian restaurants. It will give you a list. The list has their phone numbers. You can select from the list of Italian restaurants, see the address, the location on the map, and press one button to call them.

Some of the other features of this GPS include live traffic updates, which automatically update your route and arrival time based on the expected traffic delay, an MP3 player (I’ve uploaded 6 or 8 CD’s, and there is room for more, plus you can add a memory card), Text to speech (it speaks street names), etc.

Plus, you can move this from one vehicle to another.

I know I sound like a Garmin salesman, but I’m not. It’s just a really good device. Other brands have similar features.

You have this one? I'll pick one up, looks ideal. People on Amazon complain about the blinking light when driving at night, but I figure one could always tape that over. It sounds like the actual functions of microphone and speaker work very well. Done deal.

I don't need a GPS. I have no use for one.

Yes. I love it, except I keep forgetting to turn it off. And the blue light does bug, but like you said...I put some electrical tape over it.

My wife has the Garmin NUVI 660 and the blue-tooth function does not work as well because the device is up over the dashboard, quite far from her mouth so there is allot of cabin noise interference. Syncing it with the radio is even worse.
