Gaping Vaginas in 1080p

No I am not talking about my ex.

Say goodbye to blu-ray and hello to HD-DVD. The porn industry is a power house when it comes to video format.

Exelent article!

I think the safe thing to do is get a bi-format player.

I'm waiting until this whole mess sorts itself out and calms down in a couple of years. By then whatever high-definition format is going to win out should have established itself and prices will be a fraction of what they are now, with quality that leaves 1080p way behind - there's already replacement technology in the works. It's like the advent of VCRs back in the 1980s or what happens with advances in personal computing - it takes a few years for everything to settle out and standards to come out of the mess, but once it does, the technology is reasonably stable and secure for many years. This is the way it is - advancements are made in fits and starts, with nothing of huge significance happening in between. There's little gradual or consistent change. This is a major change that will leave conventional color (CRT-type) televisions as relics in museums or in landfills, but until the new standard is firmly established, you're simply pumping money into what will undoubtedly be a rapidly-depreciating and rapidly-obsolete item.

About the only thing I can see myself REALLY wanting HDTV for is sporting events, and I can walk down to the local brewery and watch it on any one of the dozen or so they have in there for the price of a beer I'll enjoy anyhow. No reason for me to go blowing thousands on it.

There's a saying 'ya can't get too much of a good thing.' And another 'standards are a good thing."

If you haven't noticed, "Industry" seem to support, more and more, that we simply can never have enough standards. (kind of is self defeting, eh?) So what I'm saying is, you had better reallize that this is NOT 1980 . . .that trying to avoid "rapidly-depreciating and rapidly-obsolete" is a notion which is rapidly becoming obsolete.

I bought a 1080p LCD just a few months ago. It's already dropped to 70% of what I paid. A few weeks ago I got the dell 30" (cmptr) LCD for work . . it's 2560x1600 . .. and no doubt will be obsoleted w/in months. I'm certainly not complaining tho . . . these screens are a lot of bang for the buck. ....hey, get your mind outta the gutter.

So where are the pics?

I hear ya' island, I just think it's kind of stupid at this point to be spending thousands of dollars on something that will be a dinosaur in a few months - the industry is going through one of its "rapid evolution" phases right now and once it settles down and a champion emerges, it'll be a lot better of a time to get in, since whatever you buy will be closer to "cutting edge" for a longer period of time - it'll have better "holding power" if you want to think of it that way.

On a side note, I find it VERY difficult to get any hard pricing information from DirecTV about exactly what it would cost per month to get HDTV service anyway. I have no doubt this is deliberate - these people want you to simply fork over whatever they tell you it's worth that month, which I won't do. I want a number, in advance so I can establish a budget and comparison-shop and determine whether it's something I'm willing to pay or not in terms of the monthly cost. In my particular case, the initial cost of equipment (still well over $1,200 at a minimum) deters me, but if it were say, $500 I'd consider it and monthly fee would become the driving factor - and it's damn near impossible to get anyone to tell you what it's REALLY going to cost.

And of course there's the matter of, "what good is it to have a bajillion-pixel, uber-clear screen if the programming offered still sucks?", which it does in most cases. . .

LOL!

Somehow the term gaping vaginas doesn't get me excited at all.

Might be a good name for a band though.

In most civilized areas they have gentleman's clubs where you can view the real thing up close and personal.

At least that is what my friend tells me he also suggests you bring lots of one dollar bills... although I'm not sure why.

“”Blu-ray has superior quality, yes,” said a spokesperson for porn studio Bangbros, “but HD DVD is easier to produce, cheaper to produce and there are more HD DVD players in homes than there are Blu-ray players, for example in the Xbox 360.”"

There's something REALLY wrong with watching porn on your kids' xbox...

One of our displays at CES last week was a 1080p DIL-A Projector from Dream Vision on a 92" white screen in a hotel suite. We used HD-DVDs & prerecorded DISH HD movies. Riddick, Doobies in Concert, Gladiator, Phantom of the Opera etc was the material we demo'd.

It was pretty good. But porn would be frightening with this level of clarity. Trust me.

HD-DVD isn't 1080p. It is 1080i. Blu-Ray is 1080p. My next set will be 1080p.

It's weird, the lack of 1080p HD-DVD players. Tho' the xbox outputs 1080p -- it's stunning.
