				R.I.P. Boyd Coddington

Boyd Coddington passed away today. Huge figure in the hot rod world. Setting aside the embarrassing TV show, the guy was a legend and helped revive the hot rod business in the '80s. He had an eye for talent, too. Foose worked for Boyd on some of his iconic cars. Chezoom, CadZilla and WhatheHaye are three of his most famous creations.

He was a great guy and a great talent, The show was a joke and I think people are foolish to believe any of that crap was real.

Company is supposed to have a press release later today. He was supposed to be at the NAIS in Detroit last month, but was in the hospital. I thought that he had been subsequently released, though. Tim | ||

Sorry, I was never a fan of his stuff. It seemed overstyled an obnoxious on the outside to me, and cobbled together on the inside. Same goes for Chip Foose and Jesse James. I don't know a thing about him as a person, though.

agree with legion so far as tastes go. but it is a shame to lose anybody in the car hobby be it a name like Boyd or the guy who sweeps up the shop for people like Henry Schmidt.

Say what you want, he was an innovator who turned out some smooth designs. Also heard William F. Buckley died today. What a shame. He could craft words as Boyd did metal.

Bummer. I've driven past his shop hundreds of times, I always planned to come up with an excuse to stop in but never did.

Boyd was a good guy and genius on many realms in the automotive world. I would visit to his shop(shops) from time to time for various car projects I was working on. I remember one time in the early 90's he had a full size school bus to shuttle people from his wheel plant/custom car shop/Chip Foose design studio down to his car showroom, and he sat in front of my girlfriend and I. He was really personable and friendly and loved talking about cars and give a glimpse of the inner workings of the shop. On the show he always seemed grouchy, but that was tv and post weight loss. R.I.P.

Boyd was genius--imagine the show being run by that ignorant redneck -Duane Mayer! No wonder all the talent left.
