Leno or Seinfeld to host the US Top Gear!?
I just found this on autoblog http://tinyurl.com/2tp6kp .
Now I am a HUGE fan of all things Porsche but I really don't think Jerry can cut the mustard on a show like this. Jay on the other hand might be a valuable asset to the show. What do you guys think? |

Seinfeld a one trick pony...Leno has a wide range of car types. No contest...Leno all the way.

Not sure Jay has the time in his schedule.
His plate is pretty full as it is but would love to see him do it.

Neither.
While I like each for what they do best, I'd like to see some newcomers.

I don't remember the exact date, but I think Conan is already slated to take over the tonight show.

I don't know how I feel about that. I don't see it having the edge of Top Gear with either of those two. Of course, I suspect that it will pander to advertisers anyway, and if so is destined to fail.

Dane Cook.
maybe Tyra Banks could do it, she seems to have enough money to get on TV quite often.

They need to find someone who's sense of humor is a dry as the desert like Clarkson's. Steven Colbert if he was into cars....

Yea and the day he does is the last night I ever watch the Tonight Show. Conan does absolutely nothing for me and will be sad to see Jay Leno retire from the show.

I'm looking forward to the show, but have serious doubts about it's success. The best thing about Top Gear is their willingness to write off a car as "rubbish". There's none of the BS sugarcoating for advertisers that you get with American car shows and magazines. How far will the "Gear" hosts go to critique a Ford Fusion, when Ford is spending millions on advertising with NBC?
At the least, I hope the production and visual quality is up to Top Gear's standards. Past American car shows have failed miserably in that regard.

The best part of Top Gear is the personalities themselves. The perfect mix of sarcasm and banter. Can't be replicated.

Get them both, and then add in a third person, who can be the down to earth everyday man.

Hopefully NBC doesn't screw things up. I remember in the late 70's early 80's Canada had a show called SCTV. Just as funny as the original SNL. NBC bought the show and expanded the format....downhill from there.

Wasn't it NBC that rigged "exploding gas tanks" in Chevrolet Pickups?

They should let me be one of the hosts!
Joe, Leno is not renewing his contract with NBC for the tonight show... Jerry's ego won't let the show poke fun of him.... The BBC program is multi-faceted (holiganism, art, comedy, politics, Bristish life style, etc), with great chemistry (at least on air) between the the hosts. They have top notch production and editiing. It will be very difficult for an American show to replicate. Nevermind the danger (and public responsibility ![]() He!! even here on PPBBS, the posters can't agree on what's right, safe and just plain for the fun of it. |
