Candlestick Park to be renamed...
as Candlestick Park.
![]() I don't like corporate park naming. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/03/01/BA47VBK33.DTL&tsp=1 KT

I, and no body I knew, ever stopped calling it Candlestick Park, anyway. Even on they radio, they often said something like, "The Niners should benefit from the homefield advantage at Candlestick Point." I don't even remember the various names it had.

They should just call it "Elbow Grease Park" and be done with it.

In Neil Peart's last book where he writes about riding his motorcycle to each venue on tour with Rush, he refers to every venue as the "foreign car manufacturer pavilion" or the "financial services ampitheatre" or "cellular telephone provider arena". I loved it. Not a single mention of the corp. names.

The Giants dont play there no more, they play at Pac Bell Park.
I grew up knowing as Candlestick park...I never got used to calling it something else.

I still call the store on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis Dayton'sMarshallfield'sImeanMacy's. In the 80s it was one of the flagship stores of American high-end department stores. now it's just another Macy's with everything perpetually on 40% sale.
Willie Mays and Juan Marcial still do battle with Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale at Candlestick Park. Anything else they want to call it is just a name. Some parks belong to the ages.

At least Fenway will always just be "Fenway".
![]() I agree the trend towards corporate naming is just silly. Does anyone remember any of 'em anyway? Does it really make you want to buy more "Product X"?

If Fenway and Wrigley change their names, I'll officially quit watching baseball. Sad that EVERYTHING is for sale.

The Cubs have built a hugely loyal following. They are always on WGN, they have always played at Wrigley. They pretty much lose every year. More than any other team, they have resisted change and commercialization. I think that changing the name of the Wrigley is akin to renaming Marshall Field's to "Macy's". (How well did that work?) They will destroy their brand overnight.
