Love Bank Of America

Out of the blue got a check from them a few weeks back, made out to cash.

Originally thought it was one of those bogus checks like you get from car dealers, you know the kind, only good at their dealership on the purchase of a new vehicle.

But there was no other documentation. I have a BOA down the road and my wife took it in there the other day and they had no idea about any promotion. They said it was a good check. Odd thing is it was drawn from a military account.

So i figure it was from my fathers estate, maybe pension or something.

Deposited it and it cleared.

They do keep sending me other paperwork though. Have no idea what it's about so I don't even open it anymore, just toss it with the rest of the junk mail.

I like surprises like that.

Stomachmonkey - you have to use the Chase Bank on 2499 near Lowes. Best bank I have ever delt with.

I was with World Savings for 17 years, it was a kick arse bank. Now that Walkoverya bought them out, not so much.

Be careful, cause if they realise they made a mistake they will take it out of your account .

Good luck!!!

hate the Bank of America for many of their policies, changed office credit card because of it.

Still would have cashed the check though.

I became a BoA customer when they bought out a regional bank here in Atlanta years ago. I've got 1/2 dozen accounts, including a business and my mortgage with them. Up until a month ago, it has been smooth sailing.

Recently, I have discovered, as part of the mortgage/debt meltdown, they are now putting "holds" on most single-check deposits of $5k or greater, regardless of the history on the account. Now in the 17 years I've had my commercial account, not one check has ever bounced, nor have any of my client's deposit checks been returned. Now, out of the blue, these checks are being subject to 3-5 day holds. It's not a real problem, but more of the idea that bothers me. I'd be tempted to switch, but have to imagine other banks would have a similar policy.

Same problem at Citibank. Been with them for almost 12 years. Didn't start with them, but they bought the bank, that bought the bank, that bought the bank, that we started with. Lots of deposits , never once in 12 years had a check bounce or not clear. They keep putting holds on checks.

We sell a lot of hardware, and sometimes the checks are large. There's not a lot of margin there, and we have wholesalers that need to be paid too. It can be a real pain in the ass!

We have a line of credit with them, and they will ding our credit line while we have checks on hold. They keep trying to make $5 or $10 here or there on the interest. They always back out those charges, but we have to watch them like a hawk. It's the piss poor shape of the banking industry.

I have never had a 'bank' account. Been with my Credit Union for as long as I can remember.

Any advantages/disadvantages to this?
