Arizona Imigration Laws
I read today that the new law, in effect since 1 Jan 08 has had an effect on the illegals living in Arizona. Employers can be punished for hireing illegals. It seems that some are moving out, looking for better pastures. Maybe they will all end up working for Tyson Foods in Arkansas.

More likely they're all just coming to Kalifornia.
I honestly think my days living here are numbered. With each passing day I feel more and more like I'm living in a third world country here.

The revolt has started, states are going to start taking care of the problems by themselves ... is this good?

That's why I moved to Costa Rica, I thought if I was going to live in the third world I would be on the other side. My wife just couldn't adjust. |

Dean,
It is working. More and more people are leaving the state and many of them are legal residents. Reports over here are from families who have a majority of the people with a green card but who have several members who are not legal living with them. Whats happening is that they are moving to states who do not enforce the immigration laws so that everyone can work. Its time for each state to enact the same law. For some reason the nationwide immigration law is not scaring them, but the Arizona law is. They know that WE WILL PUT THEM IN JAIL, and being in jail here in the summer is not fun. Let them go back home.... and return after they get legal, if they can.

This has been reported in the media but there is no actual data to support the claim. I don't know whether the claim is true or not. All I know is that there is currently no data to support the statement that illegals are leaving Arizona more now than at any time before now.

I live here, and know guys who are having troubles keeping their business going due to the reducing work force. Guess they do not count as they are not on the official databases? Please, come to Arizona then say that, not sit 1000 miles away asking for proof from someone who lives here.

The newspaper I read had it's information from schools in Arizona that had lost students, illegal kids and kids born here of illegal parents. Moving out of Arizona. Ya gotta love it. Unless you live in Texas or California. |

The nice folks in Arizona understand the illegal alien issue better than most.
The Mexicans crossing the border illegally do so to find jobs. Better jobs than are available to them in their home country. If prospective employers risk losing their business license as well as substantial fines they will not hire these illegals. Once the jobs go away, so do the illegals. No fence needed, no big Border Patrol presence. I feel for the people suffering in their own country and understand why they cross the border. I would do the same thing in their shoes. However if we truly intend to control the "Illegal Alien" issue we simply penalize the folks hiring these "illegals". Just as is happening in Arizona today. The people hiring illegals know exactly what they are doing and have made huge profits doing so while claiming ignorance of the origin of their workforce. Ask me how I know.

Joeaksa, I know Arizonians hate Californians but do you think there might be room there for just one more? I like what Arizona is doing about this subject and Hate what the bleeding hearts in Sacramento (and everyone in Wash DC) are doing, plus it's a dry heat, right?

If my wife didn't love her current job (Disney) so much, I'd already be in AZ. No lie. I had two very good job offers in Phoenix that I had to turn down to stay in this decaying hell-hole.
*sigh* I guess that's the kind of thing love makes a guy do. Part of being married I guess. Oh well, if she's happy I'm happy I guess.

Get your rear over here then! I lived in the San Diego area years ago and have handfuls of job offers these days in SoCal, but there is just no way that I could put up with life there as it is today. Almost took a job in Palm Springs 6 months ago but in the end just could not make the jump. Californians actually did wonders to our home value's so we do not hate them but do not need them moving over here and then trying to change AZ into Kalifornia, the land of fruits and nuts either. Most of us as well do not have any issue with the immigrants either, as long as they did it LEGALLY. If not then they can go home! Joe PS no way around it, summer is a beyotch, but the other 9 months here are heaven. While its snowing in most of the rest of the country, it has been 75-80 most of the past week during the day, and 45-50 at night. Sunny all day, so hard to beat!

Sammy, the only thing that bugs me about transplants is many times "they" come here and are surprised its not EXACTLY like "back home". Then stomp around complaining about "the bagels here SUCK" or "I can't find my favorite wine! This place SUCKS". Please move here and embrace all AZ has to offer. Just don't be pissed when its 110 degrees in May. When Dec/Jan roll around you'll love it! Oh, for a test run, put your oven on 110 and put your head in there for a few. Don't worry, its a dry heat! ![]() ![]()

I live in Arizona and can tell you the problem here is approaching if not already in, crisis. Our state is probably one of the easiest border crossings for illegals. They aren't all Mexicans either! Where are the so-called national security (homeland security) protections we hear so much about? National Guard troops and fences, high tech cameras and citizen groups have hardly even slowed it down. And what role is Mexico (our good neighbor?) playing in the effort to curb the mass migration out of their wonderful homeland? Nothing! They don't want them either! And now WE need a friggin' passport to visit that $hithole that they don't even want to live in!
When I was in the US Coast Guard boot camp, many years ago, my company had 38 young men from the Philippines out of 60 in the company. They were signed up for six year hitches as Stewards (but other ratings were open to them as well) in return for which they earned US citizenship at the end of an honorable six years of service. While serving, they received all the benefits and same pay as any other and were able to send money home to families and earn legal citizenship! No free ride here. Today we have all sorts of *********s streaming into our country, over-taxing our social and medical services, not paying taxes and creating very negative (angry) emotions about all Mexicans because the illegals are everywhere and totally out of control. I don't see Arizona as being so unique when you consider the numbers of illegals now melded into and across America. Some law enforcement leaders are attempting to make life less attractive for illegals with arrests, not only of the illegals but of the employers who knowingly hire them. (And that's just about any who have them on staff). The gatherings of illegals is blatantly obvious on many street corners and vacant lots throughout the state. As a result most citizens are throughly disillusioned with the lack of effective political and/or police action. No one, except those illegals who've managed to go undetected for years, thinks any form of amnesty is even remotely reasonable. SO... To all you young Mexicans who think you'd like to live in America and enjoy our country's benefits, Join the US Army, prove yourself a loyal, worthy candidate for citizenship (earn it) and as soon as you return, with an honorable service record, from the middle east, you're in. As this national crisis continues to get worse and worse the risk of being shot the the leg in the middle east far out weighs the risk of being shot in the head in downtown Phoenix.

AS a side bar... My generation was required to sign up for the draft and to serve our country. Many if not most of our young men had a required military service to fulfill once we turned 18 (AND WE WERE BORN HERE!) Why now, would we give anyone from foreign soil a free ride into our homeland without their having entered through the front door and earning it?
Arizona is still a great state and a wonderful place to work, raise a family and retire. I trust there will be a solution one day that allows good people to continue to migrate, live and flourish in our amazing country.
