OT thinktank..anyone cut their own hair? what tool?

ok, i can face the facts. i dont have a killer head of hair. i still go to a local barbershop to get buzzed. i like the chitchat/bs'ing with the guys there. but i do pay $20 plus, for the easiest haircut ever. i do a #1 all over, tapered back. i think it may be time to do it myself. what are you guys using? i know i want steel blades. no plastic combs. i only need one blade, the #1, and i think i am good to go. not much info on pro trimmers. what kinda money am i gonna have to pony up. it is a pain to put aside time to make it to the barber. parking is also a mofo. if i let it slip, i look like an extra in an oldschool kungfu movie. not good.

My wife cuts my hair with a Wahl clipper.

My cheap ass cousin actually has a Flowbee, one of those suck and cut, or clipper with a vacuum attached, does not work too well apparently

I've cut my own hair for years now. Like you, I'm not exactly John Kerry in the hair department. So there's not a lot a barber can do. I've found I can do it pretty much the same, and it saves me the time of having to go to the barber.

Mine is a little more involved than a #1 all over, but not much. My Wahl trimmer was around $50 a few years ago, came with a bunch of the plastic guides (half inch, 3/8, 1/4, etc.) After a while, you get very good at using the reverse image in the mirror. It's totally second nature to me now.

Yea, just get yourself a good clipper and a couple of mirrors. Piece of cake.

Put a deep finder fitting...and no need of a mirror...!

I'll admit this...( Shhhh, keep it to yourself, OK? )

I have been using the Flowbee™ for over 15 years, now.
I use it with my 5HP shopvac.

I'm due for a haircut tonight, so I'll post before and after shots.
I have got it down to about 10 minutes and then my wife trims the neck hair with my mustache clipper.

I like it for the convenience factor. Anytime, day or night.

Nobody can tell the difference.

Two thumbs up for the Flowbee™

I don't care what anyone says. I've never had any gaffs.

One time when I was a kid, however, I tried to do my own haircut with scissors after drinking...
Yeah, I can't really recommend that...So much.

Whatever you do - avoid a running 911 fan blade with long hair.

It is a most painful way to get your hair shortened...

Yep, I do a #1, all over once per week. Rechargable trimmer. Wahl makes a good set. I like to do it in the shower (no water!!!), to capture the hair.

The shortest setting on the Flowbee™ may suit you just fine.

Come over and we'll try it out on you.

Those who cut their own hair are akin to those who represent themselves in court. Nuff said.

I don't go to court...

You'll see the pics later and you can mock then.

I am bald, so who cares. I trim as needed then every month or so get the barber to do the neck where I cannot reach... Sorry but they charge me $10 bux, the same as someone with hair, so I push it off as long as possible. Am not trying to impress anyone at this stage in life...

I haven't been to the barber since 1968, I just use a pair of scissors and cut a little bit every couple of weeks. Of course I don't care too much how I look either. I wonder how much I've saved in haircuts since 1968? How often do most people go to the barber?

I think most people get a cut every 6-12 weeks.

Some more often.

I wait until I have a mullet and then trim.

+1 on the Wahl. Paying 20 bucks every month to have someone run a buzzer through my hair is a rip-off.
