Real life impinging on your hobbies, it happens. Especially when you have children, well it should at least a little bit anyway if you have kids around. I find if I have free time and my grandson is around, not a lot gets done.

billwagnon 03-07-2008 06:05 AM

I don't think he's quitting the board.

But he needs to work on his book. There's going to be a nostatic book, right?

onewhippedpuppy 03-07-2008 06:20 AM

I say good call, you have your priorities straight. No German toys for me either, but family comes first.

charleskieffner 03-07-2008 06:24 AM

being a dad is numero uno............racing is numero 1 billion. they are only young once and god knows we dont want them pulling the same stunts as us . once they leave the house you cant put them in a bubble they will do and say what they want despite all of yer warnings. stuff we did years ago are now punished by death. times have changed. no matter how rural you live it aint mayberry rfd anymore. if anything rural is worse than the city now a days.

i commend you for your decision. my older son was the same, more spectator than participant. when he did participate in off road racing he leaned toward extreme people and extreme stunts which landed him in triage multiple times. he never pulled stunts while i was around knowing full well he would incur the wrath of 6'3 230# coming at him like a freight train, but w/his extreme friends extreme behavior occurred. very very very much to his demise and freedom for the next 3.6 years.

and this is not a case of me being self centered and not being a father. i was cub scout leader, boy scouts, little league, homework dad from hell, chores done dad from hell, curfew dad from hell, but he still managed to find the time to get into trouble. sooooooooooo in ending your making the right choice. racing cars will always be there, your son will not. hes growing wings now and yearns to fly away from the nest. build the correct wings and HOPEFULLY he will fly straight. there are no guarantees in the single dad game.

good luck.

I have cut back around here, but not quit. I thought about it, but I like some of you guys too much.

I am seriously considering a book based on this place though. I need to talk to Wayne first...

Family always first.

I agree it is wonderful to have a Porsche but in lifes priority, it is not even on the map. Someone said "1-billionth" and that is about right...

Family... Health... Security, Security, etc.

It is well known that tons of people have high credit card debt amongst other issues. Some because of bad luck (health issues) but most because of self indulgence.

If I were to have $10K in credit card debt, there would be no Porsche!

Luck for most of us, we can afford a great hobby that we really enjoy!

I know that if I were to loose my job, the Porsche would have to go within the year...
(not the first to go, because it is a rather stable asset, but it would likely have to go)...

Maybe you should considering an online version book based on this place.

I doubt if livi would mind! Bring him over for a special signing

I hope that PPOT doesn't get pinged hard by all the hits if PPOT is mentioned ...

you gotta do what you gotta do. There's always another one when the time comes.

Either that, or build a Camaro now. ;)

As another that's going through a divorce right now this made my day.

My car currently has a blown motor, and while I've looked at my options, it doesn't really seem nearly as important as what you've said.

Thanks Todd, sometimes one needs a reality check. I just got one.

I still would like to have a flat 6 though. Reverting the car is a non-starter now that it has a welded full cage in it. Point of no return was probably when I went to f/g. The good thing is my last event was Infineon where I won my class on both Saturday and Sunday. And the Sunday race I passed in turn 10 of the last lap to pull off the win. The highlight though was winning at Laguna Seca, beating a 6 car class field. So the memories are sweet.

Then there was the accident at Infineon that almost killed one of our guys, and another one at Vegas this last event where a guy hit some oil and was a passenger, slamming the wall. I dodged one bullet on the Duc. I figure I went three clean seasons...that's enough for now.

Good observations all, guy. Mid 70's, I and a friend watching local yuk races.
Wandering through the pits, marveling at the cost of the "go fast" bits and pieces. I asked my friend, "Gawd, how do these guys afford this stuff?"

A VERY ANGRY wife emerged from the shade of the canopy. Her remarks stick with me to this day. The following isn't an exact quote, because I doubt my memory is that good...but here's the gist. "Oh, it's EASY! Your grocery budget is less than a hobo's. Your kids don't need new clothes, you're ordered to shop at the salvation army store. Save for the kids college? Forget it! His race car needs new tires, brakes, or an engine overhaul. Dentist? Oh, forget that...we can maybe go next year. Vacations? HA! This hanging around a hot and smelly track is all the vacation we need!"

Her rant went on much longer, but you get the drift. She was able to make my buddy and I feel bad about being "car guys".

Two sides to every coin. We need to flip that coin from time to time...

Thanks Paul. More good stuff. I guess I'm having a down day. I have to go see my attorney this evening after work. Anxiety is a b*tch.

911boost 03-07-2008 09:17 AM

This is one of the reasons the turbo has never seen the track. Like you Todd, I can very rarely go halfway.

I have a two year old and a five year old, so family does come first.

Good luck on the sale, and hopefully you can pick up a nice SC to use as a DD.

Bill

Todd....did just the same as you...for the same reasons too. Three kids that all deserve and receive my time now. I ultimately replaced my 4 wheeled pride and joy with the little beauty in my avatar. An absolute blast on an early Sunday morning ride through the N. GA mountains. Come home, have breakfast with the family and start the day.

She is missed, but life is good:
