Well I ride a motorcycle everyday and have been riding my bicycle 20-35 miles four or five times a week. I'm more nervous on my bicycle then the motorcycle. It's crazy out here. I have been nearly run off the road or hit by mirrors several times. Unless your going to stay in your house, there are risks in almost every activity that you do. All you can do is try to stack the odds in your favor. A good portion of the accidents you hear about on the news are rider error. Personally, I think every accident is rider error. Even in Todds case, Had he been wearing some motorcycle gear, I don't think his injuries would have been nearly as bad. The Hurt report was a very detailed report published in 1981 about the dynamics and cause of motorcycle accidents. It is still very accurate. It should be required reading for anyone riding a motorcycle. |
Wise words above...written by a pro. Heads up, boy racers! :)

Great move. Kids first, cars second. You can always buy a car later on, but you kid will be young only once. Have fun with him. My two girls are out on their own now and I would give anything to run around the house with them again. But thats what grandkids are for. Racing is expensive, you need big pockets, and for what, a few trophies. "we dont need more stinking trophies".

Kids burn money. So do cars. Racing x 100. One transmission (like yours-yikes!)= braces and a cool starter car for a 16 year old. You don't need to be a mathemetician to figure this one out - which you have. Good call. The cars will always be there. What you're doing is making sure that your relationship with your son will always be there. I'm tearing up. Talk amongst yourselves.

Todd, I can definitely relate. Life gets in the way of racing. I've only been able to make it to one event in the last two years. My son is now 6 and I need and want to spend more time with him on weekends, plus my business is really cranking and is extremely demanding on my time and energy. It's ironic that 5-7 years ago I was notably more budget limited, but had more free time and DIY initiative so I was able to do 10+ events some years. Now I am making more money than ever in my life, but have virtually zero free time after work and family.
Starting to question the dust-covered car in the garage, piles of wheels/tires/spares, and the trailer that's costing me $1K/year to store...but at this point I am not looking to unload (well, maybe the trailer). Maybe it's a fond delusion that in a year or two I will have both time AND money simultaneously, and jump back into it. Cheers, |

The rest is just taking up time..;) |
I simply mean they are expensive.

I sold my modified '72 T several years ago for similar reasons, Todd.
You already know, but you're making a sound decision, IMO. You can't beat kids . . . or at least you shouldn't . . . too much. :D Best, Kurt |
well, that was quick. Had one guy come look today, then another who was referred by TRE. The second guy, an ex-POC racer getting back into it, sounds like a perfect fit for the car so we agreed on a price and she'll be gone a week from Monday. There is an incredible amount of stuff wrapped up in that car, but as the g/f says, time for a new chapter.
I think I need that F800S though :p |
Are you a bit sad?
I would be. Actually I am, and it's your car. KT |
Are you going to replace it with a street 911?
|
I don't think so...not right now. Kinda like when your dog dies, you don't go right out and get a new puppy ;)
The goal is to take most of it and chunk it into cds, then sock away money every month and get back above my "magic number" of savings. I reserve the right to get another bike though, and I definitely am investing in some more hardware to support an emerging art career. Another 911 (or maybe a teener?) is down the road a bit. Have to see how the rest of this year plays out. If I sell a bunch of prints then I'll treat myself. That being said, I have pondered dumping the A3 and buying a 993 as my only vehicle :p |

:) Just know that being wise is no fun at all. Not that I know anything about wisdom. |
I understand, I sold a piece of British trash about six months ago for an obscene about of money. I miss it, but I look at what the monies have allowed me to do with home improvements and such and I get over it.
