HAHA - Paul there were a few comments when you pulled away - 1st one I heard was what is that thing? Then when of the girls standing next to me scrunched up her nose and said - it's so loud!

When I was waiting in line to run - a low 30's couple came up to my car - The girl - quasi attractive asked what type of porsch my car was - the guy says - it's a 911 - carrera just like mine - but older - She asks me what year - I say 1987 - she tells her friend it may be like yours but I like this one much better - it sounds better too. I chuckled -

I have found that 95% of the time plain Boxster owners are pretty clueless. I've also found that about 50% of the Boxster S drivers know what they have, know some history, at least have some if not quite a bit of Porsche experience.

The 944 and 914 guys seem sometimes shocked when I come over and admire their cars - especially when I get out of mine. Strange.

It's what happens when you're used to being ignored. :D

Seriously though, it's nice when someone comes over and at least has some kind of idea what it is. People either think the engine is also in the back, that it's got an Audi engine in it, that it's an RX-7, ...

Byron, you should have simply mentioned that the PORSCHE motor on the trailer behind you is worth more than his car. If nothing else, it would have shut him up.

I thought about it, but wasn't in the mood. It use to piss people off when I would auto-X my hot rod rabbit PU, and had this decal, on a magnet (yes, over 20 years later I still have it:D)

And some would make comments, then those who knew me would correct them because at this time, my Porsche was only a few years old, but since I built my truck from the ground up, I really enjoyed auto-xing it more. Even at our concours, some give me nasty looks, because they knew that I had a 911 cab, but kept bring the 76 914. I buy my Porsches for me, not to impress others and those who have been to track events will tell you, I'm just a car guy, friendly to all who are friendly, no matter what they drive:D

On the 924/944 is a RX7 thing, I use to tease a buddy who had a 930 slant nose conversion, it was at a buddies shop, parked right next to an RX7, and since it used the RX7 head lights, I would tease him that his 500HP 930 looked like a RX7, but being a friend, I could tease him. On a related note, a buddy with a concours 968 cab showed up at a PCA meeting last year, and everyone thought that it was a brand new model, he corrected them that it was a 94.

I spotted an older guy (late 50's) pulling into a parking spot with a new Carrera and I compliented him on the how beautiful his 997 looked.

He asked me "What's a 997?"

I tried to explain but he was just gave me a blank stare...

Well, this afternoon, a buddy call me and wants to meet me at the club for happy hour. Well, I pull, dress for my actual job, & driving the Jag. My buddy says he has a friend coming to meet us, who has a Porsche and want to get a few upgrades (wheels mostly) he told that his friend really wanted to meet me after hearing about all my cars & parts, you guessed, mr. You wish you owned a poorsch. I finished my Capt. & Coke and left, and said, maybe one day I'll own a cool 986:p
I just wasn't in the mood & too much to do before leaving for Sebring tomorrow:cool:

Karma at its finest:p and blind luck since I wasn't planning on hanging out & haven't been out much lately since I haven't been feeling well. And had I stopped to gas up before I went to the barn, he would have seen a few sets of Porsche wheels:D not that he would have known what they were:rolleyes:

Well, I was wearing a collared shirt, clean shave & no hat this time, & tried to play it off, but I think that the look on my face pretty much froze him. The old guy I got the 906, 962 and am still getting goodies from when he wants more room, he looks like a homeless guy, and one of my attorney's buddies, dresses like a fishing bum, a very well off retired lawyer who made many very good investments, has some of the coolest cars anywhere, but if you saw him on the street, you would think he was homeless. That is the difference between old earned money & techno new money.
