Boxster Owners?????? WTF??????????????

Well, I took a load of stuff to the farm today with the burb & trailer in to, picked up my big gun safe, so that & a crate was the onlt thing on the trailer. Since I've been working on one of the 914s & moving stuff, I'm dressed for that, t-short, ratty Vans, but am wearing an old Porsche hat, the only thing I was wearing that says Porsche, and it is only a black hat with Red PORSCHE across the front . Here is where it gets kooky. I stop to fill up the thrirsty beast a guy in a new boxster pulls up at the pump on the other side, looks at the burb, me and says

You wish you had a Porsche
I just stand there smiling, as the crate on my trailer has my RSR susp & brakes that I'm dropping off to be powder coated and had he looked past my hat, he would have seen my twin plug 3.0 with 46 Webers, of course, this may be his 1st Porsche and he could have seen all that stuff and not know that there were for Porsche and I guess I could have pointed out the PCA 20 member decal in the windshield, but I just smiled & looked away:rolleyes:

Anyone else had any of these new 986, 996 owners act like that when you were wearing a Porsche shirt or hat????? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1205012059.jpg

Even driving my old 356 or 930 I rarely get a nod or wave from the new cars. WTF? I don't care they own them because they can not because they should.

How old was this guy? Im guessing mid twenties. Probably his girlfriends car. Na while boxters and late model 911s are bad BMW M3s without fail are the worst. Two summers ago I had one pull up next to me roll his window down and the first thing I see is a hella HOT girl in the passenger seat. Shes was staring at me then I notice theres some in the back seat too. Whats happens next is anything but a dream. The 18 year old punk driving his fathers car leans out the window lifts his poser sunglasses up looks my car up and down with a sneer says "DUDE? your porsche old!" he then revs the engine dumps the clutch and damn near takes the front of my car off as he cuts in front of me to make a illegal lane change.

I have a 996. I recently sold an '85 targa. When I had the targa, I tried to engage newer cars, with little luck. Now, when I flash another P-car, its a very mixed reaction. Sometimes old cars acknowledge back, some don't. And most regular 996's are clueless, but the turbos usually wink/flash back.

But what an obnoxious arsehole you just dealt with.

The 20's something medical school student next door said; I heard that the old Porsches were air-cooled?

Yep they were, I said.

The look on his face was one of mixed horror.:D

I was gassing up my 944 when a guy in 911 with a white beard and Hawaiian shirt pulled up, I looked at him and smiled... he pretended I wasn't there.

Not that I really care what other people think anymore... when I get my Boxster I'll be the friendliest SOB you'll ever meet.

Les Paul 03-08-2008 01:28 PM

When I sell my old cars and upgrade to a 997 Turbo I aint wavin at you losers either. SmileWavy

tonypeoni 03-08-2008 01:30 PM

LOL but why is any of this a mystery? Surely we all know the old Porsche/Porcupine adage:D

lendaddy 03-08-2008 01:42 PM

I would have at least called him a douche.

URY914 03-08-2008 01:46 PM

I went to a P-car dealer's autocross a few weeks ago. When I pulled up in a full race 914 with a big ass wing I knew I would get some comments from the new "owners", I mean leasers. People had no idea about my car.

There is a guy in my wifes hs class of 75 who I gave a ride in my 930 at their 10th year reunion. At the time he was in med school and said he'd have one some day. He is a local orthopedic surgeon now and a couple of years ago I'd see this beautiful 996tt at the hospital but didn't know who owned it, finally one day I ran into the owner. The guy from my wifes hs class. I asked him what he thought about it etc. Of course I had to ask him what he'd had it up to and he told me, "120 and it scared me half to death"? Say what? You have at the ultimate Porsche and 120 scares you? Ok, it was a 3 year lease, and he now drives a big azz Bimmer. Go figure

You have significantly more self control than I do.

targa911S 03-08-2008 02:38 PM

yeah I was wearing a 911S shirt one day and driving my mini van and some ahole Boxster driver was at the pump at the same time. He asked me if I had the car or only the shirt with an " I know the answer to the question from a mini van driver" look on his face. I politely said " I have both". I got a lot more respect when I he asked what model I had. God I miss that car!~

sammyg2 03-08-2008 02:46 PM

You should have looked at him and said, "nice car, does it come in men's size too?"

Note that I have nothing against boxsters, I have a problem with asshats like that guy.

Well I'm no Porsche owner but in a related vein...I've lost count of how many people ask me "what kind of bike is THAT?" When I tell them its a BMW(even though the roundel is quite conspicuous) they always say"When did BMW start making motorcycles?" I just say ...it's new

grudk 03-08-2008 02:55 PM

Most new Porsche buyers are looking for image and the 'F-U factor,' so none of this is surprising to me. In sure in the mid 70s, some of the owners sneered at the 'old' short hoods, too. And the 3.2s sneered at the SCs, and so on. Now the older cars are in the hands of enthusiasts, or eccentrics, depending on you point of view. I have never had a new Porsche owner acknowledge me on the road (the track is another world), and frankly I prefer it that way.

Icemaster 03-08-2008 03:17 PM

Filling up at a Shell over on the east side of town, Cayenne pulls up at the pump behind me. Kid (in dad's car....) looks at the targa, my bald head and sneers "get a real Porsche."

I answered "You first."

Then I hear girlfriend/sister whoever in the pax seat start laughing. Kid never filled up, just hopped back in and drove off.

Similar instance with a boxster owner, friendlier tho - he started smacking on my car and how his boxster could outperform mine. Told him that the Boxster had taken the title away from the VW Cabriolet.

"What title?" he asks.

"Catholic high school girls car" I answer.

He smiled, walked off. Didn't say anything else. Though he did wave when he drove off.

Now that's funny. I've had several friends who are "air heads." I'd eventually like to get one of the older bikes, myself. Wow.

I've had the same question. Along with "Why is there a BMW sticker on your bike?" And "What are the things sticking out the sides for?" By "things" they meant cylinders.

I've always been tempted to spin some bull**** about the bike being a custom one-off prototype worth millions.but mostly it's just not worth the bother. they're only people outside their area of expertise. i imagine i'd seem pretty stupid asking questions around boats.
