What is your favorite vacation spot?
Trying to get some ideas for a family thing. So far the majority is for an Alaskan cruise.

Mine is Australia. Don't know if you're up for that but if you have children they'll be amazed and you and the missus will be too.

Do you want adventure or touristy stuff? For adventure I'd head out to the countryside in western China, maybe Tibet or Xinjiang. I will never ever again step foot on any kind of cruise ship. Those were some of the worst four days of my life, watching fat bodies gorge themselves on 24 hr. buffet bars.

Haven't been many places but Grand Cayman is on my list of places to go back to.
Enjoyed the heck out of the cruise we took several years back. Dinner with 8 or 10 strangers every night is just fun to me. As a note not 1 person at our table was really overweight. Heck i LOST weight on the cruise yet ate 4 or 5 meals a day.

Don't really have one (I'm not a big vacation person) but lately I've been thinking a lot about going back up to Yellowstone for a week. It's been over 10 years since I was last there and I still look back on it as a sort of mystical, surreal experience. It was great.
Maybe something to do when the 911 is all done. Road trip. ![]()

Alaska Cruise is a good idea, especially if you want to escape the heat of AZ. By adults I guess it means a generational vacation with adult children and grandparents? My 2c-stay away from the cheapest cruise like Carnival. Read reviews from many sites before you deposit. Pay more for pleasant memories. A cruise offers places to escape from family as well and then get together for dinner.
Have a great time. John_AZ |

Oooh, ditto on John_AZ's comment on Carnival. We talked with many 'cruisophiles' on our trip and almost to a man/woman the ones that had been on Carnival weren't going back. It was a college beer party which, depending on your goal, might not right for you. Wouldn't have been for me.

The one place I've been that I'd go back to is Chile/Easter Island. The island is well worth the trip. It was absolutely thrilling to see the statues in person, and the climate (we went late December/early January) was outstanding.

If you're up for a cruise, I'd highly recommend something like a Windjammer Boat in the British Virgin Islands, or Nevis/St. Barths, Grenadines, Barbados . . . etc.
Cruise ships offer a lot, but they'll nickle and dime you. And, when you dock, you'll just have ONE MORE opportunity to by those stupid keychains, t-shirts, and touristy things that you don't want. Small 'tall ships' in the virgin islands can dock in smaller ports, and you can get a much better 'local' experience than a standard cruise ship. And, I feel that The Virgin Islands kind of bridges that gap between a "really expensive, really safe" Hawaii and a "economical, perhaps a little too adventurous Southeast Asia". Especially with kids. www.windjammer.com www.bhtmcruise.com www.starclippers.com The prices seem high, but remember; they are ALL INCLUSIVE; four meals a day. Some offer free drink programs, and ALL extracurriculars, like snorkeling, water ski, kayak, boogie boards, surfboards, tubing, is FREE. If your kid wants to boogie board for . . say, 8 minutes, like a kid does, you're not out 10 bucks for that 8 minutes. Wanna go water skiing for 20 minutes, do it. I think it's great.
