Jeffy Will Drop A Load When He Gets A Load Of This
Today started out as a fine day, I thought I would cruise along and view the potential purchase of a spoon or 2. I did turn up a coupla items that were worthwhile.
How bout aKen Bresien Muzzleloading Match Target Rifle. Bresien was known for making some fine shooting Black Powder Barrels. This is a 2 Barrel set 54 cal and 451 Cal with various Redfield sights and a wooden box to keep everything in.

How did I miss this thread? Musta been asleep at the wheel. Very, very nice there tabs. Is Bresien still alive? He must be getting on in years if he is. I remember way back before all this black powder stuff took off again, he was going to make some Stevens 44 1/2 actions or something. I'm not sure if he ever did. He was ahead of his time (along with Droege) in the resurrection of the black powder cartridge rifle. If either of them had waited a decade, they could have been rich... Both guy's personal work is already climbing in value. Bresien's front stuffers and Droege's "Farmingdale" Sharps.
So I'm assuming the .54 is a round ball barrel and the .45 a slug barrel. Very nice combination. I've always liked the underhammers as well. One of these days I'm going to order one of those Zephyrs out of Oregon and go hunting with it...

Yo Jeffy this is one of the other little gems I picked up as well. It is a VERY early Farmingdale 1863 SRC. Marked Shiloh Products Inc. It is as new.

Alas, I had one and got rid of it when I tired of the paper cartridge game. Used to get the nitrided paper from Dixie Gun Works; the mold came with the gun when I bought it. Casting the hollow base bullets for it wasn't all that fun, either. Never could get it to shoot well enough even to hunt with it, unless I swabbed the bore every shot. Kind of defeated the purpose, really. Oh well. That was before I really learned how to make black powder shoot in a breach loader. Maybe some day I'll try again. Shilo lists them once more in their catalog.
The Farmingdale guns are approaching original gun prices, last I looked. Wolfgang did a great job on them. At least with everything but the barrels; they seem to be hit and miss regarding consistant accuracy. We had a pretty easy time mopping up on them at the matches, using Schofstall's new rifles (after they parted company), with their Douglas or Badger barrels. The family running Shilo today has certainly improved their barrel making, which they still do in house.

Business rifle...which was their lowest grade 1874 Sporting rifle. I sold one about 10 years back that was 45/120. I got around $1300 for it.
