No, they would talk about anything BUT the car in front of them. And though I like Dennis Miller, I don't think I could take his metaphors on a car show. Nope, I vote for two complete unkowns.

Wouldn't the US-version of TopGear pretty much be a NASCARization of the original. There aren't enough of "us" to make the British version commercially viable in the US (otherwise they'd just broadcast it as is and make boatloads of money). Same reason Speed TV is now 90% NASCAR. I suspect our version is going to be heavily biased toward muscle cars to please the broadest audience possible ..... if the auto content isn't there, it won't matter who the hosts are.

I will cast one vote for Jay Leno. Think about it. Conan is going to be taking over The Tonight Show in 2009. I'd also vote for Brock Yates, but he's probably a little long in the tooth these days. Would Csaba Csere be too far out there???

I will watch it. After reading the article on him in Grassroots I think he really is a car guy and won't be won over by dubs and the latest automatic closing tailgate.

I have a really cool idea and its probably been suggested already. How about just syndicating the BBC version in prime time TV in the USA? Why go through the expense of copying a hit (and probably failing) when you can have the hit?

The execs probably feel that the average viewer would have problems relating to the show because of the cars that are reviewed and maybe some of the comments about America (which I personally love). Also, even as a huge fan, I sometimes get bored of "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" when it is a really minor British star that I have never heard of. That is my guess on the issue. That being said, that would be the greatest thing ever if they did bring it here (in its entirety, no editing).

I think Jack Black would be a good sidekick regardless of what he knows about cars....
