First VW SUV? We like it!

Someone posted this VW in the random pics. thread and my wife saw it;

and is now in love!

I now have marching orders for my next 'project'. (I wanted a rat rod, oh well.)

So can someone point me towards the year? Curved nose/body lines, 1960's I assume?

So let's see ...I cut out about three feet out of the middle, push the ends together and re-weld? Build my own tube chassis, add a 911 flat six, and P-car running gear?

The search is on....

Dangerous?
Best to stick with 50HP VW motivation perhaps? (ha)

I'm guessing 62 or 63

There's a couple of shorties for sale on thesamba.com - I'd suggest getting one already cut rather than hacking up another bus.

A set of turning brakes would make things real interesting...

I posted it in the Random Transport thread. PLEASE buy one that has already been cut. Don't cut a good one down.

It is a '67 or earlier.

They are VERY unstable. VERY, VERY unstable.

Driving over 40 mph is dangerous.

Short wheelbase, high center of gravity...

You shouldn't drive it fast enough to use a p-car engine.

And THAT'S why they call it the "short bus"?
