I had forgotten how good Blade Runner is....

Just finished watching it. Damn, I had forgotten how good that movie is.

I think Goodfellas has better dialog, but you can beat BR for cinematography. Just amazing, especially considering when it was made.

That's funny, I thought BladeRunner was the worst movie I've ever seen. Just goes to show you how different we all are....

Great movie. Ridley Scott based his vision of a future LA on Tokyo, and I remember walking around Tokyo my first night there, and I kept thinking how like Bladerunner it was (no rain or flying cars, though).

It's one of those movies that gets better every time you see it. The level of detail is amazing, and the lighting and cinematography is second to none. Did you see The Final Cut? They went back and re-shot a couple of screwed-up scenes, including having Joanna Cassidy come back to replace the stunt double's head and hair when she was running through the plate glass windows.

does "the final cut" have the voiceover narrative put back in? the ommision of that in the directors cut ruined it for me. i liked it in the original release.

Nope. You'd be disappointed again.

Personally, I think the voiceover was too Hollywood. Didn't belong.

One of my top 5. I've seen it 4 times now, and have it (original) in my library.

Director's Cut was awful. Harrison's voiceover was gone and so was the great, great Vangelis sound track.

...and the alternative ending sucked.

I haven't seen the director's cut, but from what I've heard I think I would like the original better. When I first saw it I think I was in high school and it was too old for me. I was a little weirded out by the whole science fiction robot like human creepiness. I saw it later when I was old enough not to be distracted and could understand the story better. In that showing I thought it was a remarkable film. I haven't seen it for years, but I suspect it's the kind of movie that once you decide you like it, it gets better with age.

Top 5 for me of all time. I was at the opening in LA and managed to grab an original movie poster from the theater (without permission I might add) And it's not the one from the box cover, its the one where he's running across the roof.

Great, great movie. Didn't know the bit about Tokyo. Took a long ride in a Typhoon-related rain storm from Yokohama through Tokyo to a restaurant up north on a Friday night a couple of years ago. All I could think of was Blade Runner.....Now I know why....

Rutger Hauer was just amazing and Sean Young was an early "crush" for me as a kid. Still one of my favs.

One of my favorites also. My wife hates to see it come on. I agree with Seric that Rutger Hauer was great as was Sean Young, among others.

I Love the title of the short story that the movie was developed from...."Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by P.K. Dick

Here's a good read about the making of the movie: Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner by Paul M. Sammon

So...was Deckard also a Replicant? What do you think?

Never read the book, but I never thought he was a replicant, he wasn't physically as strong as the replicants. He was stronger than the average human, and his experience and excellence in being a Blade Runner made him stand out.

I likened the Bladerunners to be like CIA enforcers or KGB hitmen.

No. tcar must be referring to the music in the original ending when Deckard was driving down the road with Rachael. The Vangelis music is still there.

Ridley Scott says he was and puts evidence in the Director's Cut that is a stretch to explain any other way. He added a scene where Deckard is dreaming of a unicorn running through a forest. Later on, Gaff leaves an origami unicorn outside his door, which means he's aware of Deckard's memory implants. There's also a scene where the glow is seen in Deckard's eyes (when Rachael is in his apartment) that you only see from the replicants. Ridley Scott finally said one would have to be a "moron" to not know it meant Deckard was a replicant.

When Bryant was showing Deckard the information on the renegade Nexus 6 replicants, they all had A, B, and C ratings for intelligence and strength.

Personally, I like the idea of Deckard being a human better. Harrison Ford felt strongly about it as well. My understanding is the book is quite vague on the issue.

There's a couple of bootleg versions out now where the deleted scenes and some/all of the voice over is added back in. It's surprising how well the deleted scenes integrate back into the movie vs seeing them separately. One is online for download, it's called White Dragon Cut. The web page is in Japanese, but the soundtrack is english. The other one is very similar, but is available on DVD for a modest donation from the guy who made it in the UK. He did a very good job, IMO.
