Man, for me that is almost half my life ago. I was married for about 2 years then, working 8 to 16 hour days as a steelworker, living in a motor home I had bought specifically so I could live on the property where I was personally building my first house. My wife made conjugal visits to the motor home only on occasion!!
Looking back, I don't know how I ever made it with so little sleep, but it was the smartest thing I ever probably did. I sold the house 5 years later for 3x for what I paid for it and the property. It got us off to a good start.

I turned 27 in 71, I had gotten back from Vietnam and out of the USMC 22 December 68, I bought a pick up and a motorcycle. By 71 I was married, a mistake, had two cars and bought my first home in California. Working as a surveyor and going to school two nights a week. Racing motorcycles Friday nights at Ascot and Saturdays someplace else. Those were the days, great music and cheap pot.

What were you doing when you were my age?
I was two years younger. When I was 21 I wanted to go to Kellogg to get my MBA. I got married at 24. My dad died at 27. Now I'm 29. I don't have much ambition left.

27 going on 28 was 2 years ago for me!
I was: playing guitar in a local/regional punk/garage rock band playing roller hockey on tuesday nights handling search engine optimization for a growing mail order business saving as much $ as possible living in sin with a girlfriend 13 years older than I getting into cycling worrying about ze future wanting a 911 Not much has changed 2 years later. I'm the marketing manager at the same company and make a bit more $, nothing earth shattering. No kids. No marriage, still living in sin. I don't play in the band any more and took a time out on the roller hockey league. Focusing on work. the big 3-0 is a month and a week away. Uh oh. I got the porsche, anyway. Life is short.

Chris, you just sound like you're in one of life's "valleys" that we all go through. Personally, I didn't get "serious" about stuff until I was at least your age (although I wasn't a total flake either), and almost two decades later, it seems like several lifetimes ago. You've got a lot "on the ball"...trust me, you'll find that "ambition" again before you know it. Good luck, but you don't really need luck imo...

im in between your daughter and your age, w/ no kids... kinda like my father he was 59 when my sister was 27 and 66 when i was 27... lots of variations available on 'how to live' and everyone's path is truly their own. |

oh, btw.... graduated college at age 27.
Had a million cash in the bank at 30. Don't lose your ambition in your 20's man! Read some books.... get inspired. I can honestly tell you that most men atone to greatness late in their years; that's what keeps me going today.... something GREAT is about to happen! There's too much fun in life not to enjoy every day. Please.............. "enjoy" ![]() |

That would be 20 years ago for me.
I got married. We bought our current house that same year. (1988) Worked way too many hours. I think I put the Snap On dealers kids through school while building up my tool collection. I remember it as being "dirt poor" at that time in my life but great satisfaction at the same time.

At 28 I had a house I bought 3 years before, a girl I married 2 years before, and a son on the way. I did have some Retirement savings but I think I could have "retired" for about 3 months. My goals at that time were to have a job where I was able to have my wife at home to raise our soon to be child and to have a Porsche by 30.
I am now 33, am on my second Porsche and my wife has been at home for 3 years working just a few hours on the weekend to keep busy. New goals include paying off my mortgage in the next 5 years and possibly buying a second place by the ski hill to enjoy with the family and rent out part time. The only debt I have is a car lease of $250/month for my wifes Mazda3. Im no millionaire but I get to spend a lot of time at home with my family, when Im not at home Im snowboarding (22 days this year) Whitewater kayaking and autoXing the 944S. Generally I dont feel to panicked about money, so im happy. The advice that I would give is to find something you like and stick with it and set some good meaningful measurable goals. |

Hmmm when I was 28, Mother was after me to come out of the bedroom. She said, "Tabs make something of your life." I ignored her, it got to the point she would have to slip notes under the door. So U might say when I was 28 I was playing Rock and Roll on my stereo real loud. It was a year and half later that Mother got really fed up with me and told me to go out and buy a house that she would pay for it. Anything to get rid of the noise and not to mention my emptying out the refrigerator. I guess she figured that buying a house for me would be cheaper in the long run than trying to keep her refer full.
