The issue with the Triumph is how tight the leg position is. Both the Multi and Hyper are pretty relaxed. But I only sat on the Triumph, didn't ride it. It is cheaper than the Ducs...but the Street Triple is in short supply.

That's great, Todd I need a little info on you like date of birth, SS#, etc. for the life insurance policy I'll be taking out on you. In today's markets what an investment! For what? $100/month or so I get a pretty good potential return-on-investment for a cool million. Eff, the stock market, I know where I'm investing my money! God forbid I hope you don't do something like go into a vegetative state for 10 or 20 years, the insurance company will be hell to collect on that claim! "He hasn't died yet, you can't have your money" What a bit(h!.

BTW I used to ride bikes in LA and almost seriously got killed twice. The last time, I'm told they gave me the last rites cause they took me to a catholic hospital. I spent a few month in the hospital on that one.

I have long term care insurance as well.

I know that riding a motorcycle is more dangerous than driving a car. But some of you guys seem to think that if you climb on a bike you will immediately spontaneously combust. Millions of people ride them everyday without incident.

One could argue that being overweight and out of shape is a bigger health risk and "more irresponsible" than riding a motorcycle fully geared up in an adult manner. I ride bicycles with my son. Should I sell his bicycle before he dies on it? Maybe I should bubble wrap myself and him until he turns 18...

I believe (strongly) that not everyone belongs on a MC, but for those of us who do it is one of life's sublime pleasures. Normally I would say that anyone who has to think about it as much as Todd has too much trepidation and should not ride, but we all know here that he has his own unique decision-making process when it comes to vehicles in general.

I would say that Randy's friend and Hugh do not belong on a bike, and at least Hugh knows it. Too bad about the other guy. Very sad. I do not agree at all that I am going down in the future for sure; if it happens, it happens but I'm a damn good rider and driver and don't crash much. Haven't balled-up a car ever, and that includes a cab driving career in two different cities driving 200 miles a night in the city and more x-country drives than I can count. I've done a LOT of driving and MC riding in traffic, doesn't faze me in the least. Could I run-out of luck and be killed tomorrow? Of course. But the proof is in the pudding. People who have two major bike accidents in a few years do not belong on a bike. That's self-evident.

My biggest, and really only major fear on a bike is hitting a deer out on the open road or on a country ride. For that reason, your accident, Todd, sent a chill up my spine. You have to have a plan in advance that is very practiced in your mind for those situations, rare and freakish as it might have been. If I take a road trip on a MC, night driving will be minimal and mostly drafting very close behind semi-trailers out on the interstate. Just enough room for braking reaction time, that's it. You can use 18-wheelers as rolling steel walls around you on interstate hiways if you know what you are doing.

Lastly, I was just with a friend whose Dad died recently @ 94 years of age. (My friend is only ~40). The only thing the old man had to tell him about life was that "it goes by really fast..."

I do this on a regular basis. Do it. You'll love it. I rode my GS to San Diego and back week before last. Rode it from DC to FL a few weeks before, poured rain the whole way and the bike performed like a champ.

Rob got Tboned by a gal crossing the road turning to go the opposite way - she had a stop sign- he didn't. No way to avoid it. It wasn't HIS fault....

It isn't what you can do at that point, that's the problem with riding a bike.

Before I even got back into riding about two years ago, I had it drilled into my head that everything is always my fault because, as a biker, I'd be the one to suffer the brunt of the consequences. When I'm in a car, I always have the "their fault" mentality. On the bike, I look at it everything as my fault if it gets to the point of near danger, which I should have predicted and avoided. There's no comfort in being not at fault if you're dead. Some drunk crossing the center line maybe at fault, but he'll likely still be alive.

I'm sure you can find video of pedestrians getting run over, kids on bicycles maimed or killed, people breaking multiple bones skiing, small plane crashes, etc.
