What they need for hosts, Chris Rock, Ted Allan, and hot chick with big boobs.

tcar 04-29-2008 12:43 PM

Big three would be interested? Automatically a crappy show.

Too bad there wasn't a pilot show made. What would they do if they gave it a green light, make 6 episodes and broadcast it w/o any market research/audience feeback? So NBC essentially ditched the idea because they couldn't understand the concept. Twits. (gee, there I go sounding all British). Or they did understand the concept but couldn't fathom the popularity of the BBC version. Actually, it should have been easier for TV execs to examine Nielson numbers than understand car culture.

Not that I was supporting USA Top Gear. OTOH, I thought US TV would produce another formulaic rip off, and badly too without the edge and irreverant humor that makes BBC Top Gear so juicy.

NBC would be doing themselves a favor by simply buying the rights to rebroadcast BBC TG on their network. They should covet a ratings hit w/o the ramp up costs (how many production companies can order up an aircraft carrier for a 5 min. segment?). Why not buy the rights? NBC didn't invent NFL or MLB, and they spend gazillions broadcasting many of those yawners. I suspect their greed is in lockstep with corporate policy; they'd want the potential long-term syndication rights enjoyed by the producers - which wouldn't be the case here. So what? If they'd think out of the box, they'd enjoy winning back market share (now lost to Grand Theft Auto) and enjoy the adv. revenue with a proven show.

Later on, they could revert to typical US-TV form and create a spinoff for mass consumption and years of syndication rights. Tentative title: BJ Nation, a show about a dysfunctional, but hilarious family of auctioneers and their employees. They live in former FEMA trailers while touring the US organizing classic car shows for the rich and idle. Sorta like that edgy HBO series, Carnivale a couple of years ago, but not as good.

Network TV pisses me off so I don't watch it.

I like the title 'BJ Nation' but was thinking of a different premise. Never mind; wouldn't work on network TV.

Last week, a friend of mine said she cut the hair of a guy who is working on the Top Gear pilot and that they are currently filming.

Call me a dork but I don't think we need an American version of Top Gear. We already have one. It's PBS's Motorweek.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha! Have you ever watched Top Gear? Motorweek is great for insomniacs, not much more. And when that douche Dutch Mandel comes on, "but wait there's more", I want to throw a brick through my TV.

Older versions of Top Gear and it's ITV clone Fifth Gear are very much like Motorweek, factual without the clowning around.

Gene

You mean older like in 1995 ? :D come on Fifth Gear is a joke they do all the stuff Top Gear did 10 years ago ....

kwm 05-06-2008 06:26 AM

Fifth Gear might be a joke COMPARED TO Top Gear but COMPARED TO anything in the US Fifth Gear is ground breaking...

Chris Rock isn't going to get any work what-so-ever after that flop of a movie he did.

My thought is that the only reason that Top Gear is wanting to be done in the US is so that US celebs can do the hot lap portion of the show. I mean think about, this whole damn country is so celebrity happy with so much celebrity-WORSHIP that in a US version that is the ONLY thing this version has to offer. Will the US version be more informative or unbiased....HELL NO!

Tim Allen, Carlos Mencia and Michelle Smith.

Michelle Smith from the Corbin's Ride On show has a lot of miles on her plus she looks like she has been ridden hard and put up wet too often can't we get a newer model? Danica maybe....Courtney Hansen who used to be on Overhaulin or some like that.
