That spells relief.

I do not think it is officially canceled, it just hasn't been put on their fall schedule as of yet. I'll be disappointed if it doesn't make it to the air A) because I love Adam Carolla B) even though it will not be as good as the original, any car show in the US is good in my book. Even though they are awful, I still end up watching all the car shows on spike on the weekend mornings if I am up and in front of a TV

onewhippedpuppy 04-09-2008 06:17 AM

Even if bad by Top Gear standards, it would still be top-notch for American car shows. That's not saying much, but still.......

t951 04-09-2008 06:28 AM

Maybe I would be excited if they had good hosts. Carolla....not what I would want. This has "Coupling" written all over it. Great British show that turned to crap when brought over.

Jay Leno officially declined it, and wrote a nice piece about why. He would have been great. I wouldn't mind seeing Craig T Nelson, Danica Patrick, Christopher Walken....

I would die if Chris Walken did it! That would be funny as it gets.

Last weeks SNL with Walken was hilarious!

if a fern crawled down your throat and choked you....what would your last thought be? mine would be 'i knew this would happen'

Agreed that US Top Gear might be a mistake, but I also agree that it isn't dead yet.

I was doing some research on this and yes it does not seem that it is a closed book. I heard the big 3 took a interest in it for obvious marketing reasons.

Adam Carolla is somewhat of a car guy at least. I saw a reality show where he rehabbed his parents house after he bought it and he does have a few tricked out cars (a 350Z and a DB9 were shown on the show).

However, I would like to see Joe Rogan as the host or at least one of the hosts. If you only know him form Fear Factor you may not know that he is pretty funny and fairly talented. His stand up act is really very good.

I love the show Top Gear and have watched it for year. However, I am not so sure about that Clarkson guy he is quite a prick. He dumps on the US but I distinctly remember back in the early early 90s him trying to launch his little ship over here on this side of the pond with a daytime talk show that flopped like a mackerel so maybe that is why he is so bitter with the U Essie crowd or the colonies as he referees to us.

.

That's all the more reason to drop it. A show like this shouldn't be influenced by the big 3 and it sounds like it would be, to me anyway. The great thing about 'Top Gear' is it's irreverence.

kwm 04-29-2008 11:02 AM

Well even despite what Jeremy Clarkson may want his viewers in the UK to think I am sure there are a lot of outside influences that affect Top Gear over there as well. I mean there are likely many funding sources that come into play that make that show or any show doable. I would just like to see more car shows in the US so I hope it gets off the ground regardless of where the $$$ comes from.

I am no Northeast effete snob - but I see "fried chicken & V8s" + "gangbangers & rice" heading into pre-production soon.:(

Let us just admit it. We just can't create a topical, irreverent, funny and politically incorrect show as the Brits do...

We used to be able to (Sanford and Son, Good Times, Archie Bunker, The Jeffersons, etc...) before this country became flooded with scared liberals but I will refrain from getting into all that b/c I know that isn't anything you wanted to hear.

The Gaijin 04-29-2008 11:39 AM

You would be singing to the choir my good man...

Top Gear is on BBC in the UK. The BBC is a state-owned corporation that is run by the BBC Trust. According to the BBC Trust charter, it is "free from both political and commercial influence and answers only to its viewers and listeners".

The BBC gets most of its funding from television license fees.

The only network in the US that is (somewhat) similar would be PBS.

I do that too. If US Top Gear does ever get on the air, we will all be bashing hell out of it here, you all know that, right?

I like Joe Rogan too, he is apparently somewhat of a badass, on top of being pretty damn funny
