Tragic Accident or Pure Stupidity?

DUI Rollover Crash On PCH Kills Teen, Injures 3
Brooks said the teens told authorities they had been drinking at a concert in Hollywood and had then gone to the Santa Monica pier, where they continued drinking. The five teens then headed north on Pacific Coast Highway and crashed on their way home.
Police said they found a bottle of Jagermeister and an empty prescription for medical marijuana.
Brooks said intoxication was the primary factor in the crash, but that excessive speed also played a role. It appeared that none of the teens were wearing seat belts, Brooks said.

Sorry but thats stupidity. Not wearing your seatbelt, then drinking and driving is asking for it, at any age.

Kinda harsh Art.

This was a tragic accident caused by amazing stupidity.....but then again I was a very stupid teenager who wasn't always on my best behavior...especially at concerts.

Scares me I have young children. How do I help them make the right choices?

Very sad.

However, it wasn't an accident... it was a consequence.

Stupidity, but stupidity is often a daily part of teenage life.

I often wonder why and how I survived that stage of my life. Used to do that kind of stuff every weekend. Not proud of that but somehow I did survive. Remember being shown the gruesome pictures before junior and senior prom weekends, never changed our minds about our behavior.

It took me a long time to learn my lesson, fortunately, it did not involve death or disfigurement in any way.

Same here. I should have died a number of times. Sad that some teens don't make it to the "old enough to know better" stage.

Boy they sure must've been cool though! I wish I could be like them - drinking and more drinking and even more drinking and then driving home! They must've been totally macho!

The gene pool is a little bit cleaner now. I hate to hear about stuff like this but stupid people have bad luck because they do stupid things.
Of course it could have been worse, they could have been smoking cigarettes instead of pot. In California is much worse to smoke tobacco than pot.

Too bad, sad for the families. Not an accident, more inevitable consequence

How does a teenager get a "prescription" for marijuana?

Tragic? You want Tragic? We just learned of a death in Cindy's family. A 5 year old boy, playing with his brother, fell down a rock incline and hurt himself badly. (Yes, the kids were being watched) Internal injuries. Rushed to the hospital, but the E.R. staff couldn't save him.

Family is grief stricken...and I also think of the E.R. staff. My daughter is an R.N. She once told me she quit E.R. work because of trajic accidents like this. Gang bangers & drunk drivers, motorcycle accidents, etc. didn't bother her...but the children, couldn't take seeing innocents die.

If you mean that kids injured in the crash could succesfully sue, I sure hope you're wrong. If anything, you'd think the cops could play hardball and charge them for not reporting a crime (drinking and driving).... betcha they all had cellphones. They are responsible for their injuries, just as much as the driver.
