Every Christmas I get someone to tie my freshly cleaned "Jerry Garcia" Christmas tie and wear it. That is my only tie and I have no idea what kind of knot it gets.

Only 2 ties I have are Jerrys, not sure what the knot I use is called... Fortunately, it is typically a few years between wearings...

I only know how to tie the half. I prefer to never wear a tie or have my shirt buttoned to my collar.

LOL i know how to tie a tie but have no idea what the knot is called.
I only wear a tie to weddings and funerals, the rest of the time it's hawaiian shirts, shorts, and flip flops. Even to church.
Except in the winter, then it's hawaiian shirts, levis, and tennis shoes.

WTF is a "necktie"?

Haven't worn one in years and won't. Not to job interviews, weddings, funerals, etc. Don't care. I can dress sharp without one if I want.

I honestly don't even think I have one in my wardrobe anymore. Pure "gingerbread" of fashion. Utterly worthless pieces of clothing. Akin to "cell phones as a fashion accessory".

If I ever HAD to wear one, yes - I do know how to tie one cleanly. Something every guy SHOULD know, but hopefully never needs to - kind of like how to kill someone by breaking their neck or gutting a carcass or stuff like that.

Definitely half windsor. Full windsor is just too bulky, particularly with a heavier tie.

While I violently agree, I had to wear a freakin' suit to a design review with the government a few months ago. Luckily I had recently purchased a suit for a job interview and left the company right after the design review.

Ties are only good to tie your girlfriend/wife to the bed....

I have to wear one at times for my work and absolutely hate it. The person who designed ties should be hung until dead with a tie firmly around their neck.

I prefer the ballanced appearance of a good full Windsor, but it's hard to wear with a heavier tie and I'm pretty tall so most of my ties aren't really long enough for me to tie a full Windsor. I'm also lazy eough to want to toss on my tie and get on with it.

My dad was a full Windsor man. He tied them tighter and squarer than anyone I've known before or since. He taught me how to tie a tie when I was in about 6th grade. First he showed me how to tie a full Windsor. We did that one for a while and then he taught me how to tie a half Windsor, or "cheater's knot". After I had mastered the half Windsor he stopped, looked at my tie and thought for a second. After a pause looked up at me and told me not to wear a half Windosr. "Jack Kennedy wore a half Windsor" he said. "He always was a little bit of a sloppy dresser". Yes, I grew up in the kind of household where even tie tying could be combined up with political guidance. The funny thing is that he was dead serious. I can picture us together in front of the bathroom mirror like it was yesterday. To this day I still feel a little guilty going out with a half Windsor. Good times.

i have a difficult time tying a half windsor without it looking all lopsided. my knots are all effed up. i know this when it comes to taking it off. usually it falls apart when done right. i have to un-tie some of mine. i am lame, or extra man-ly. i am happy i dont have to wear one except on rare occasions.

1/2. And it is better than none.

So many slobs in this world it makes me sick. And I am no Dandy.

As "business casual" has turned into worn out golf shirts and sneakers - people actually dress down from that in mis-matched sweats to go out to a nice place for dinner.
