Can't you just file for an extension? I'd think if you aren't pretty close to done by now (much less just starting/doing them) it's kind of futile and you should just request the extension. . .

Mine have been done for a while. Seeing how much went to our band of bumbling buffoons in both Washington and Sacramento explains some of my surliness over the last couple of weeks. Pretty frustrating to see how much of your $$$ goes to fund government ineptitude/inefficiency.

I paid my taxes a couple of weeks ago. I did try and figure out my 1st qtr self employment tax, became really confused at step one and finally made up a number. Now I have until June 15 to figure out the damn 1040-ES.

Filed my extension Friday.
Sure does chap my hide when you gotta write that check and this is how they spend the money:

The Pig Book Summary profiles the most egregious examples, breaks down pork per capita by state, and presents the annual Oinker Awards. All 11,610 projects are listed in a searchable database on CAGW’s website www.cagw.org. Examples of pork in the 2008 Pig Book include:

$3 million for The First Tee;
$1,950,000 for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service;
$460,752 for hops research;
$211,509 for olive fruit fly research in Paris, France;
$196,000 for the renovation and transformation of the historic Post Office in Las Vegas;
$188,000 for the Lobster Institute in Maine; and
$148,950 for the Montana Sheep Institute

I just filed the extension an hour ago.

Funded my IRA this afternoon.

I kind of like the whole tradition of marching off to the post office by midnight.

I tax pro friend of mine told me, 'if you are paying it means you were making money'.

I'm paying...

Still don't like it.

We're trying to file electronically before midnight.

I did ours months ago but we owed so I waited until yesterday to mail it. I was all ready to sign the return on Friday, then my wife said some stock she had was sold. I asked if she got a 1099?

Her: No

Me: OK, then how much was it?

Her: Um... I think it sold for X and I had X shares.

Me: How much did you buy if for?

Her: I didn't buy it, it was given to me for free.

Me: Ugh!

LOL. Let me guess: your wife = not the person who does the taxes in the household.
