Ever driven on the beach?

First time for me. Very cool. Pismo Beach, CA. I think the last remaining place in California to allow vehicles on the sand.

The reason we were there - My son and I rented some quads for the day!

Years ago in Daytona Beach, FL. Don't know if they still allow it.

I'd only ever do it with a rental though (salt=rust).

Race Point at Provincetown. Used to get a yearly permit, drive out and have a hundred yards of beach all to ourselves. They allow self contained campers on certain sections. The drive from the the road to the beach was a trail through the dunes, usually with a steep climb for the last section.

I remember when I was a kid fishing the Outer Banks of NC, you could drive for miles in either direction and likely not see anyone at all. Even when I was a teenager, it was legal during the off season at Myrtle...I remember having "jeep races" during HS beach trips. When I lived in Fl. we'd drive on the beaches in St. Augustine and Daytona, but don't think it's legal in St. A anymore. Daytona wasn't really "driving on the beach", it was more like "finding a parking spot at the mall during Christmas" on the beach .

Not on the beach, but many times in sand while offroading. My friend once got stuck in sand up to his frame, that was a 2.5 hour job to get him out, made worse by the fact that he was also up against a tree.

They still allow driving on the beach in Daytona Beach. Some sections are closed off, though.

In my youth we'd drive on Galveston, Boliver Island, Port Aransas, and Freeport. Not allowed in to many places anymore, but I'd rather go to Crystal Beach on Boliver Island where can drive on the beach than go to Galveston.

Many years ago, my then girlfriend threatened to take the keys from me after a dozen or so consecutive donut's in a rental car

We rented a sand tired golf cart on Daytona beach when our son was just a wee pup. It was funny driving past the stuck cars in a golf cart

I've seen more than a few cars get stuck in the sand over the years, including buddies' during our jeep races...not a problem if there's someone there to pull you out. I've also seen a few get stuck with no help around...tides don't wait for anyone .

A few buddies and I went on a fishing trip years ago and drove down the beach. We entered at Corpus Christi TX and ran to the Mansfield Channel. We fished, got drunk and partied all over Baffin Bay for 3 days. It's a 60 mile run from Corpus. I had a boat in tow, and hit huge piece of drift wood on the way down. Had to make on-beach repairs to the trailer. Fun times.

I used to take my old Baja Bug to Pismo, let most of the air out of the tires, and go crazy on the dunes. Nothing like a wave of sand going over the top of the car when you land. Fun stuff.

I've only gotten stuck once. There weren't many passing trucks but luckily I found a piece of plywood and got out.

I've been a passenger and been stuck a few times, it's certainly easy enough to do.

There's just something cool about driving along with the ocean just right there.

It may be still legal at Cannon Beach, Oregon. A former Governor, Oswald West, had the legislature declare all beaches public highways. A state land grab, really...but it did keep beaches from being fenced off.

I would like to add that driving on a beach is akin to driving on winter roads that salt has been used on...but it's your rig, do your own thing....

Grew up driving on the beach in Padre Island.

Just make sure you wash off all the sand and salt when you get home... Rust never sleeps!
