Some of the Kids Drawings

Just got some of my sons art work back from High School today, one of the Porsche drawings made it to the Regional Competition: I really had no idea how good he really was. He did a few of my cars which are the 86 911, the inside of the 69 912 and the 912 at the autocross along with my British Se5a and some drummer he knows.

I once drew a Pirate I saw on a matchbook cover. Sent it into the School of Art. The letter they returned raved about my abilities ...and then demanded cash for additional lessons and supplies??

Unlike me ...the kid has talent!

Not bad at all - nice to see some of the younger folks actually having some drawing skills these days!

For one, I'm so sick of seeing EVERYTHING done by computer. It's nice to see some kids exploring a truly emotive medium for a change.

My compliments to your son.

The Kids got talent. Is the last one Peter Tosh? He's got his one eye on me and one on his "stash".

He said the Drummer is Mike Smith from Suffocation: He said I wouldn't know him, and I don't

He does them all from photos, I would like to see him try to work from memory, although he did change the back of my 911 as you can see, he liked the euro bumpers better so he changed it..

Craig,
Nice work, you gotta be proud of that!
5 kids and only one artist here;
those are really good and that's a life skill that can be applied to many things; like pictionary.
Thanks for posting!
Cheers,

I will let him read these nice comments to keep him going: being a 17yo he makes no big deal about it. When he had the 911 in the art show so many people were stopping to look at it, I guess its because you could tell what it was, a lot of the drawings and paintings were very nice but I had no idea what they were? I have noticed he only draws things he likes..

I know two professional cartoonists...both told me of childhood doodling, as they called it. It's like the line from the song: "It's in him, and it has to come out."

He's definitely not doing "modern" art but that's fine. You have to create what you see/feel. And frankly, it is a hell of a lot easier to make a living more towards the graphic design tip than "pure art" (whatever that means). Odds are he'll move in different directions anyway. Has he taken any art classes at school? Especially art history. I'm coming into this stuff backwards and really wish I'd had a bit more exposure to some of this when I was younger. Art is a language and it really helps to learn the basic vocabulary. He has a great eye - I especially like the different ways he renders the trees in the 3rd piece.

It would be interesting to see him take the 911 into abstraction. One of the reasons that the design has endured is that the aesthetic is strong and classic. It is the essence of motion.

Stay out of Architecture............at least in Michigan.

Art school students have no idea what they will be doing for a living when they get out - need a refill?

Drawing talent seems to be a curse in this era, what does he want to do with his future?
