Yet, my daughter comes home from school today concerned about the rationing of rice they talked about in class. Apparently, the teacher never got beyond the ginned-up headlines and she knew nothing about the 80LB portion size.

Charles,
Got rice crackers? Yum. Where did you say you live?

Not that this is in any way related to rice. I remember a few years ago when coffee was affordable enough to get free refills. What's that you say, refills?

Then there was a coffee crop shortage so they raised the price of a cup and began charging for refills. When the coffee bean supply was back to normal, the coffee shops kept the same strategy and prices went up steadily as coffee sales began to surge. 5 bucks for a cup of java? No problem.

Then world market prices became depressed because large corporations like Starbucks began dictating prices to the growers (remind you of Walmart's business model?). Corporate profits shot up - they were making it on both ends; supply and sales.

People aren't buying as much boutique coffee now. Serves them right (Starbucks).

Sorry for the segue. BTW, I consume rice on a daily basis and ready to visit Charles.
