Burning in Hell

The idea popped into my mind from a comment on another thread.

And then there's this ongoing tendency for people to talk their religion here. So, let's try this:

Should I be destined for Hell, I shall burn according to what people say. I leave the current world as a soul, no tangibles, nothing physical. How am I supposed to feel any discomfort with no body? how am I supposed to see anything alarming?

No, I'm serious. People like Witnesses portray heaven as souls fluttering around in paradise with all the animals getting along; no one eating anyone else. The opposite has to be what they think of for heathens.

Explain to me the pain and sorrow I will suffer if I don't make it.

Oh, and I guess I get to leave all this grease under my fingernails behind either way. How can it be all that bad? :D

There is no hell. It's a myth perpetuated by British/Italian/Japanese/American car owners.

nostatic 04-25-2008 07:58 AM

how do you know PPOT isn't hell?

cgarr 04-25-2008 07:58 AM

Hell is the absence of God.

Then obviously, what we call reality is "hell" because god is absent from it, also.

I am religious but I strongly believe its not my place to judge anyone. My grandfather wore a star of David an Italian Horn and a Cross all on the same chain around his neck, when asked why he said he was covering all the bases.

No truer words could be uttered, everyone that believes in god thinks they have the "correct religion" but who knows 100%? Every one of them be it a Mormon, JW, Jew, Catholic, Buddhist or any other religion think they are correct and the others wrong.

Your idea of what a JW believes, BTW, is WAY off. Maybe if your truly curious about someones belief, instead of an e-fight on a internets forum, PM someone you know is of that faith and ask an honest question.

It all boils down to what YOU are comfortable with, some are happy not believing in god others are hard core into religion still others are casual about it.

Its your choice, thats why we have free will.

"Hell" backwards is "Lleh".

Gogar 04-25-2008 08:07 AM

GWB hates hell.

Zeke 04-25-2008 08:07 AM

Hey Jim, wait a minute, I did not mean to offend or misinterpret what a JW might believe. I worked several weeks on a job with a JW and listened to him and his thoughts on the subject very closely. I have had encounters with others and read some of the literature that included images of what I described above. If I am way off base, then it wasn't me alone that got me there.

"Explain to me the pain and sorrow I will suffer if I don't make it."
Perhaps something like nightmares.

Actually Buddhists don't think "they are correct and the others wrong."

You must have that confused with Christianity or Islam ;)

Careful, folks, he's watching!

It is very refreshing to see someone who takes religion seriously is also willing to concede that that no one knows for 100%. The blind faith that is propagated by some many religions (especially the Catholics, to whom I technically belong) is extremely frustrating, to the point that I have more or less completely turned away organized religion. The final straw for me was when our church asked anyone visiting that day who was not a member of the church to refrain from taking communion. That seemed very counter-intuitive and I attempted to get up and leave but my parents would not let me.

If that's the case I can send you to a dozen web sites that qualify!

The concepts of heaven and hell are about as stupid as any ideas i've ever heard in my life. It amazes me that any intelligent person could take either seriously for even .1 seconds.

Religion is wery bad methinx.

Not all Pastors are the same, Our Priest once said to me about receiving communion, "We receive communion not because we deserve it but because we need it" Thats why we say as a community before communion, "Lord I am not worth to receive You, but only say the word and I shall be healed."
